This show does an incredible job of depicting low self esteem, in very precise and painful ways. (Steven said LGBT rights)
Okay, the horror movie editing here was fabulous.Â
Just gonna leave this one here.

STEVEN WHAT LESSONS ARE YOU TAKING AWAY FROM YOUR ADVENTURES?
But player two is player two.Â
So, Lars and Sadie are depressingly realistically depicted teens. They spend all day together and then they spend a lot of time together outside work, and Lars is incredibly superficial but he’s just a teen boy who wants to be cool and wants to slack off and who’s completely willing to use his smoopy coworker to get that.Â
It’s quite a complex situation to portray in a kids show - two people who aren’t bad, but who are in a sucky situation because of their circumstances. In this show, work isn’t only background colour, it drives a lot of the dynamics. People can’t separate from the professional roles they’re expected to play, they’re informed by them (which is very realistic, but rarely depicted). And Sadie, who is young and probably doesn’t have many options in this beach town, has fallen into this trap. It was meant to be temporary but now she’s stuck. Even her own clothes are Big Donut purple (although her shoes are pink). She’s enmeshed in this corporate system - she sleeps here, she slacks off here, she knows the forbidden donut lore, she is always always here.Â
Earlier we saw PeeDee chilling with his dad, a reminder of how the exploitation of labour affected their role and a nice update on how they’re doing. But Sadie is in the same trap with Lars. They could be great friends, perhaps, but a big obstacle is work. Lars doesn’t want to do it. Sadie feels she can’t get away from it. She’s taking on his burdens, his duties, and he’s started to use that for his own gain. The boundaries between love and duty slipslide because he’s knocked Sadie down a bit and now she wants to please him by standing in line for seven hours to be called ‘player two’.
Oh no, even his shirt is 80s. Still clinging to those glory days, Mr S.Â
