After finding out what colour scheme and typography that I would be using for my Sherlock Holmes website, I began putting together a style tile to help me, get an better idea of the overall look and feel of the website but also to help me communicate to my peers on what the ideas is about.

So first I began sketching ideas on what my style guide should look like:

Then after having a idea on what it should look like, I started bring it too life in Adobe illustrator, Here is the final result:

Weather App: Style Tile

Having created the original designs for the weather app, I decided to rethink the look and feel. I wanted the appearance to look clean and more modern. The purpose of the green, yellow and red is for the use of important messages. The dark blue and turquoise are meant to reflect both the weather and health. I went with Sofia Pro Soft as the font for the logo as I felt it has a harmonious feel appropriate enough to represent weather and health. Encode Sans was included to give the feel a bit of a twist, although I’m not 100% sold on it. For the buttons I wanted them to have rounded edges to give it a friendly feel. I’d use the colourless button as a text field and the coloured one as a button. You may notice I included a subtle round background, this is to represent a sun, and also aids the friendly and harmonious feel around the brand.

Takahe Project Style Tile

For the website I wanted the colours to be as representative to the takahe bird as much as possible. I also wanted the colour scheme to be somewhat reflecting of the New Zealand culture, which is to be adventurous and brave, and I kind of feel this style can do it justice. For the font I went with Skranji. I felt this somewhat playful font works well with the spirited apparel of the takahe, and thus decided to use it for headings, as I think it would look distracting on the copy. For the main paragraph copy I’ve gone with PT Sans. It’s got a similar style to it but is much more readable on copy than Skranji. I’ve kept the text colour as a subtle white, I don’t really intend to use another colour as I’m not sure it’s needed, but I will see as I’m creating the website. In regards to the textures I’ve included a colourful square to represent the takahe’s colours and am considering using this for imagery. The second texture is a simple illustration of grass and intend to use it for certain parts of the site.

Heroes & Villains: Digital Style Tile

Style Tile Inspiration 1

As I was looking for dark-themed style tiles, I came across this one. Whilst it may not entirely relate to a Sherlock theme (or maybe it would, depending on your angle), I can imagine this resembling some of the characters from the heroes & villains cast. The big title at the top with the catchy description underneath, I think would be an interesting option. I can imagine this type of style tile being used to depict some swanky crime programme, but this isn’t a modern era story we’re making this for, as much as I’d be interested to go along with something like this. We’ll see how it goes.
