emma grew up in grantley with a troubled brother, an alcoholic as a mother and a father who was the president of a local motorcycle club. needless to say, he was not at all faithful to her mother. the club is all about drugs, sex, alcohol and of course, motorcycles.

AND YAS BITCH YAS! i am totally drawing insp from sons of anarchy for this. don't judge me. 

the club transports and distributes illegal drugs and weapons. they engage in violent crimes and are men you do not want to piss off. they've been operating in grantley for two generations and most of them practically grew up in the club. emma’s grandfather founded the club and needless to say, it’s sort of the family business. the club is practically family and all the members have an extremely strong bond.

the club also owns an autoshop (clarke automotive repairs) that operates both as their clubhouse and as a front for their criminal and illegal activities. 

emma has always disliked her family and especially the club. she hates everything the club represents. she decided from a young age that she was gonna get away from grantley one day and escape the club's influence. she wanted to do something good and something positive with her life.

she’s always been a bit of a dreamer with her head misplaced in the clouds, lost in her own little world. she always dreamed about becoming a surgeon, about doing something more meaningful with her hands than fixing broken cars and motorcycles. but no matter how loving she might seem, there's still a little piece of herself that she keeps tucked away.

maybe it was the influence of the club, but she always got into fights with bullies twice her size growing up. she simply can’t stand to watch someone get picked on, which is just another reason why she hates the club. she basically sees the club as glorified bullies. she wanted to become everything the club isn’t. she wanted to help people.

growing up, she was always loitering around in the clubhouse trying to get her dad's attention. but she somehow attracted the attention of a club prospect instead. it was probably all those short skirts and long legs strutting around all the time to be perfectly honest.

they eventually started sneaking around but of course had to keep it a secret... because HELLO! a prospect dating the prez's daughter is pretty much suicide.

they both fell hard for each other, but emma still decided to leave grantley after high school. she simply couldn't stand to stay any longer. she had to get away from her family, the club, grantley and even the prospect. trouble will always follow him and she wanted a better life for herself. she just couldn't imagine the life she had always wanted with the prospect. she also didn't want to marry into the club like she was fated to, so she left town and he never heard from her again. BITCH MOVE I KNOW!

obviously, emma leaving left him very bitter. she's the only girl he has every truly loved. he's been fucking girls rough and hard ever since. if you're a blonde, watch out. he'll more than likely displace his hate for emma onto you. "BECAUSE WHEN I'M INSIDE SOMEONE, THERE'S ONLY ONE FACE I SEE." sons of anarchy reference anybody???

anyways, emma went off to college and later attended med school, eventually disappearing from her family completely. she believed that if her father knew where she was, he'd somehow find a way to drag her back to grantley which was the last thing she wanted.

it's been about ten years and emma just recently found out that her mother was killed in a gang retaliation a few months ago. she hasn't spoken to her family in years. but her brother who is now a club member finally managed to track her down in boston. if he found her, so could the rival club that killed their mother, so he convinced her to move back to grantley for her own protection. a part of emma even misses grantley, her family and even the prospect. she also feels extremely guilty for leaving now that her mother is dead.

now on to the good stuff. she's back in town and hasn't seen the prospect in ten years. he's the VP now and is even more volatile and violent than he used to be. he has probably killed a couple people tbqh.

i imagine that both her brother and father harbor a large amount of resentment towards her. she's definitely got a lot of ass kissing to do.

obviously the prospect also has a lot of resentment towards emma for leaving, and when she shows up in town again she's basically going to ruin his life. he's gonna be all I'M A BIG BAD GRRR HOW DARE YOU COME BACK HERE! 

he's gonna try and make her life hell, always bothering her and wanting her to leave town. it’s also important to note that nobody knows about their history either. 

emma meanwhile still feels guilty for leaving but is also like, "SEE!!? this is exactly why i left. you're still doing the same shit you were doing ten years ago. i tried to get away and i still got sucked back in."

he's going to hate every single person that makes a move on her, beating up every guy who even looks at her for longer than a second. but he refuses to admit he has feelings for her because he's got too much damn pride. he both hates and loves her still.

idk, i just see them bickering all the time and blaming each other for what happened because there's a lot of unresolved feelings still. he seriously despises her now, but he also won't be able to stay away and is obsessed with keeping her safe. and the more they fight, the more they just kind of... give up on fighting.

i think we have a lot to go off so i'm not worried. i think it's inevitable that eventually something will happen between them. she'll fall for him again but also hate what he does so there will be a lot of tension in their relationship. she pretty much hates everything about the club. also, it’s pretty much the norm and culture of the club to sleep around which emma will not tolerate. if he wanted to, he could fool around with other women without her ever knowing. it’ll be hard for her to fully trust him.

i also don't know if he'll ever truly forgive emma for leaving, and he's probably terrified that she'll decide to leave again. i imagine he'll try and push her away and yeah, lots of angst. there's also rules in the club against screwing other members' daughters, sisters, wives and girlfriends, so getting involved will create some drama amidst the club as well.
