presentation hacks with Kayli
Ok so this year we had an endless amount of presentations to do, so naturally, I’ve gotten better at them. I’ve also picked up on a few things that i like when people do and things i don’t. So i put all these things and other advice into one big list, enough explaining, let’s go!
1. DO SOME REAL RESEARCH
- It sounds obvious because most people do it, but i’ve noticed that some people do little to no research so their presentations are 30 seconds long and you don’t gain anything from listening to them.
- When you’re doing research about something from your textbooks, sometimes it’s helpful to look at more sources than just that because you might learn something that no one else does and it will make your presentation stand out
2. BE CONFIDENT
- Knowing your introduction off by heart will make it easier to not be so nervous, the first minute is always the hardest
- Telling yourself “I can do this! I can do this!” will seriously make you more confident
- If you are nervous about follow up questions, present to your friends and get them to ask questions, you’ll feel more prepared
3. INTRODUCTIONS
- Introductions are the most important part of your presentation, they let people decide whether or not they are going to listen to you
- Having a strong, interesting and exciting introduction and people will surely listen
- Starting off with a story will help people relate to their own lives and be more interested in what you have to say
4. SPEAKING
- Make sure you’re speaking loud enough for everyone in the room
- Speak confidently, i find when people when don’t speak confidently i question if they actually know what they’re talking about
- To contradict what i just said don’t sound TOO confident or else you’ll seem obnoxious and I’ve seen it happen and demotivates me to listen
-Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, just keep going, if you don’t acknowledge it, people won’t notice it happened
5. VISUAL AIDS
- If you can have them, use them!
- If you are feeling self-conscious , they take the focus off you, people will be looking at your visual aids
6. CONCLUSIONS
- Same thing as writing your conclusion for an essay, summarize your main points, reflect, all that jazz
7. OVERALL
- Have fun with your presentation!
- Stay calm, be confident!
I hope this helps, see ya soon, Kayli
