Patroclus & Achilles Poem
Another poetry assignment from my creative writing class last semester. We had to write a Greek Mythology inspired poem and well, my mind went straight to the song of Achilles. So I found inspiration in the Gladiolus, a greek flower, and went crazy.
Gladiolus flowers grow best in sun They need water to survive I used to look out to fields full of them Achilles said they reminded him of me That was a long time ago I wish I could have told him he reminded me of the sun Standing tall, glowing, shining down onto me even in the darkest hours A companion He was right He was the sun and I was a gladiolus flower Completely dependent on his glow And his tears Moisturizing my skin one last time Before the wound from Hector’s spear took my final breath - P
