Stephanie Nnamani has no interest in being liked for anything less than she is. ~ @i-donline
STUDIO THEORY x KAHKTI S/S 2017
photo + art direction: Stephanie Nnamani
portraits of NIYA WELLS for Studio Theory story, SHIFT STILL.
THE BLACK VICTORIAN – editorial short examining the regality and opulence of Blackness, despite its absence in remarkable sociocultural, revolutionary periods such as the Victorian age. This piece and its corresponding images seek to borrow elements of painting techniques present within the Victorian period, being keen to underline that: while the first photograph was taken by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce in 1826 or 1827. Conducting a search may yield a few collections inclusive of Black men and women, many of which endured strife to come into a space warranting of a portraiture. However, there still remains an absence of Black narratives represented in paintings--a process that requires far more intricacy and dedication than that of taking a photograph. More than that, paintings of eras such as Romantic and Victorian are essential in depicting the rich, colourful, and extravagant lifestyles of the people of that period. For the exclusion of Black narratives to be present, it begs for a retrospective portrayal of what could have been. Art direction, styling, and photography by Teff, for STUDIO THEORY. Assistance and original score provided by singer/songwriter, Niya Wells, featuring Eve Majok as the subject with makeup by Johanna Essien. I thought it important to assemble and incorporate the efforts of an entirely team of Black women.

Investigate: Standards based web programming Discuss process, impact, and provide examples in a blog post
Web standards are formal standards and specifications of web based programing. The term relates to best practice of net programing. It is a standardization of best practice in web design and programming. It is a constantly changing set of rules that evolve over time as technology changes. For this reason web standards can be divided into to two catagories, those under development and those which are finalised.
Independant web standards and specifications effect the development of websites and webservices; considerations include interoperability, accessablitiy and useablity.
When a website has Valid CSS, Java script and HTML it usally is classed as complying with web standards (their are some exceptions.)
Web standards are published by the following orgainisations:
Recommendations published by the World Wide Web Constortium (W3C)
Internet standards (STD) documents published by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF)
Request for comments (RFC) documents published by the Internet Engineering Task Force
Standards published by theInternational organizartion for standardization (ISO)
Standards published by Ecma International (formerly ECMA)
The Unicode Standard and various Unicode Technical Reports (UTRs) published by the Unicode Consortium
Name and number registries maintained by the internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA)

It was a part in a trilogy also including PHON:E:ME and FILMTEXT. Grammatron is a virtual writing machine, it contains over 1100 text spaces, 2000 links, more than 40 mins of original soundtrack and a variety of animated and other visual content. It questions the nature of a book based narrative in the not too distant future.
The Grammatron received acclaim world wide and has been written about in publications such as The New York Times, The Australian, The Guardian and many other publications.
PHON:E:ME (1999)
PHON:E:ME is the second part in the net.art trilogy, it is a concept album made from mp3s which was commissioned for the Walker Art Centre. The sounds used sound like somewhere between a modern meditation and some kind of subliminal message/brainwashing. PHON:E:ME explored multi-linear narrative though sound and hypertext. PHON:E:ME was nominated for the prestigious International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences Award in 2000.
FILMTEXT
FILMTEXT is a combination of Internet art, gallery installation, interactive narrative (amongst other things). The work was premiered at Mark Amerika's How to be an internet artist. Filmtext explores the inter-relationships between modern media such as net culture, games and digital narrative.
