Via @studiomuseum 🗽: In Stephanie J. Williams's @steph.j.williams stop-motion animation "PINOY/PLOY" (2016), the artist explores stereotypes found in American food culture and appropriations of the foods of marginalized communities. The main protagonists are baluts, half-formed fermented duck eggs that are considered a delicacy in the Philippines. The loose narrative unfolds in a kitchen, where the baluts come alive and engage in a haunting dance featuring cast angel figurines, Aunt Jemima Syrup, and Uncle Ben’s Rice. Thanks to Yolanda, Michael, Ruby, Dorian, Manasseh, Folayan, Omotato, Lutalo, and everyone else who joined us for this hands-on workshop! 🔴 “Presented on the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King in partnership with Harlem Stage Gatehouse, this workshop invites participants to consider his legacy and evaluate where we are now through a communal timeline exercise addressing our collective past, present, and future (1960–2020). Led by visual artist Glendalys Medina, visitors will use a set of predetermined symbols to unpack and visually abstract their own memories of major personal and historical events. This hands-on workshop is presented as part of an evening of music, visual art, and movement honoring Dr. King as a fearless leader.” (at Harlem Stage)

Williams! 👋🏾🏛🤲🏾 In this hands-on workshop, Williams will lead participants through the process of creating simple, posable puppets for use in a collaborative animated short film. 🎥 The workshop is inspired by her stop motion film PINOY/PLOY (2016) currently on view in Fictions. We concluded the night by sharing and discussing our unique creations as a community of practice...SO! MUCH! Following a walkthrough of his work in We Go as They, Robert will guide workshop participants through his process as they create their own paintings, drawings, and collages from photographs and sourced imagery. #ROLLTHRU Art-making materials will be provided.
