Leaving London (2nd draft)
(Male line)
Liam is that you? Daddy’s going to be late from work tonight.
 There’s been a delay and the tubes aren’t running…
Did you have a nice day?
Did you read your poem in the school assembly?
I won’t get back before your bedtime but
We’ll have breakfast in the morning
And you can tell me all about it then.
Be good for your mum now
And kind to your baby sister
Give her a kiss from me
And tell her not to worry
There’s a beautiful sunset
 And I can’t believe
The South Bank looks so different
And I thought I haven’t been here for years –Even though I catch the train from Waterloo
Every single day - And it’s so beautiful
And I thought it’s been so long since we had any fun in London
Just daddy going to work- and coming back again – yes boring!
And I don’t want to miss this
And I want you should see it too
There’s lively walks and fancy restaurants and crazy fountains you can splash in -
We should come here at the weekend and see the sights
And take lots of pictures like tourists on their holiday
Cos what’s the point of living here When we never go out anywhere
(Female Line)
 Peter, I’m sorry Peter
I’ve only just this minute got to Waterloo
I walked all the way from Euston
There was a man under a train
At Tottenham Court
(No – Not a good time
Poor selfish sod!)
 The station was clogged
And the bus queues endless
And I thought – You know what
I’m just going to walk
 So I bought a cheap
Pair of crappy trainers and
Got out of my heels
And walked the length of Charing Cross Road
And over Embankment Bridge
 And I can’t believe
The South Bank looks so different
And I thought I haven’t been here for years –Even though I catch the train from Waterloo
Every frigging day - And it’s so beautiful
God I’ve had a rubbish day!
I’m not sure I want to do this job anymore
All I do is work and come home late
And I’m sick of it and you’re sick of me being sick of it.
That mad-cap scheme of yours -
(No, not that – The B&B idea)
Well I’m beginning to see its appeal
 Yeh we should leave London
Before another one
Jumps off a platform edge
We should leave London and visit it more often
Cos what’s the point of living here When we never go out anywhere
 And I can’t believe
The South Bank looks so different
And I thought I haven’t been here for years –
Even though I catch the train from Waterloo
Every single day - And it’s so beautiful
Goodnight Liam
I’ll do scrambled eggs for our breakfast
Well make plans for the weekend
 Sweet dreams
And no playing on your computer games
 And I can’t believe
The South Bank looks so different
And I thought I haven’t been here for years –
Even though I catch the train from Waterloo
Every frigging day - And it’s so beautiful
Peter, The trains just pulling out now.
I should be back by half past nine.
I can pass by the Chinese on my way if you don’t feel like cooking –
And get a bottle from the offie
Cos I need a glass of wine.
I’ll see you soon.
You can laugh at me
Yes me in my new trainers.
