Strong For Laci
Laci Green is posting a new video tomorrow!!!
In order of feel:
And if anyone scares her off again, I will track them down and do something very not nice!
Haters
I just learned a little bit about the Laci Green story.
Hate expressed in the form of violence is not OK. Period.
When you allow your hate to be an expression of violence you support the status quo.
LIfe is not fair. I'm sorry you weren't born a white straight passing male or female. Sucks to be you.
Laci Green's story touches on one of the things we are not talking about. White privilege.
Being white in America(especially) is to have privilege. Your life is better. Whether you realize it or not. It is.
When a white person acknowledges they have that privilege they should be supported. Not vilified. Make no mistake Laci Green is being vilified. Simply because she happens to be able to pass as a white straight female. I say this regardless of what Laci Green is. This is the image the internets and society have put on her. Whether its true or not is not the issue. The issue is what that label is currently doing to Laci Green.
When minorities and/or so called social justice leaders take on the role of oppressor you are turning your back on everything you say you stand by.
You are saying that it is alright to hate. You are saying it's alright to use that hate to endanger lives. You are shutting down other voices who may have been supporters of your cause but now do not feel safe to speak out for the fear of the fact they might say something that will piss you off.
Not even you who may own the corner on marginality have the right to threaten the safety and life of another. Stop using your victimization as an excuse to spread hate.
We need to allow the space for people to make mistakes. We need to create spaces where we can be able to say "I don't know". Spaces where people can admit "I didn't know I was being offensive and I'd like to learn not to be".
Tell me with this "wonderful environment" that social justice champions have created in hate what conversations are being allowed?
The environment that was created led Laci Green to remove herself from the internet and go into hiding. Social Justice champions you have just shut down a powerful and often positive voice. You have proven that you have the power to shut down conversations that you don't like. You have shown through the power of your hatred that anyone who doesn't think like you doesn't have the right to speak. You have shown through your hatred that no one is allowed to make a mistake. No one is allowed to have a different thought than you. If this was the goal you were aiming for congratulations you won!
Let's examine your victory. You have created an environment which many people will now stay silent. You have proven to all that it is indeed ok to be hateful if you don't agree with someone. You have weakened the strength that the social justice community here on tumblr had. You have exposed the ugliness of the social justice community. In my opinion that is the only positive thing that has come out of this.
You must be so pleased.
I'm taking a stand. It not ok to hate, threaten people with acts of violence, and spew filth! That is not a part of the social justice community that I will be a part of. So I stand with Laci. I stand with all those who have the strength to admit they made a mistake and are learning from it. I stand with those who choose to talk about hard issues. I stand with those who disagree with me and still want to have a conversation. I stand with those who stand for social justice for all.

People, we need to talk.
The issue of Laci Green's persecutuion from the online community is something that was brought to my attention recently. A lot has already been said in regards to the online community's role as a positive forum and how her comments don't warrant the reactions that she recived that I agree with, so I won't spend to much time disscussing that.
Allow me however, to simply say this:
I don't care if you were offended by what this individual said. I respect your right to feel offended about a comment that was made in a public forum as much as I respect her right to make those comments. All of that is entirely irrelevant however: YOU DO NOT INTERACT WITH PEOPLE LIKE THIS. IT IS BEYOND ALL LEVELS OF UNACCEPTABLE. Sending death threats and causing people to fear for thier personal saftey is not just an "overreaction" or "taking things a bit to far". It is disgusting and reprehensable. It is the actions of scum and cowards, and anyone who feels any sort of justification and pride over the results of this incident need to seriously consider imediatley stop wasting air, and donate your organs to medical science.
I completley support those who have feelings on an issue and wish to express them in a dignified and civil manner. But simply because you sit at a monitor does not change the fact that you simply do not treat people like this. Ever.
I sincerly hope Laci feels comfortable to rejoin the community as soon as possible, so that she can continue her good work. Until next time people, that will be all.
*ahem*
