With what’s going on in Dalston, I think it’s times like this where the black community struggle for other races to understand our collective frustrations. It’s times like this where it is so hard to understand why people simply cannot value a human life enough to show empathy towards the anger of a community or even acknowledge black people as humans, who do display anger and a range of other complicated emotions. I think with the media portrayal of the so-called, ‘riot’ that is being used to justify police violence on us, as to them we are undeserving of proper, decent and legal treatment, even when we are wrong. I really do become so hyper aware of living in a white majority country with such a racist history and it becomes so unbearable, especially for black students (as I am a studyblr first and foremost) who face a constant battle both internal and external. And I just want to remind myself that it’s ok to remove yourself from the news even though it’s your brothers being hurt and watch stuff that make you relax. My mode of comfort rn (and possibly forever) is @cecileemeke’s strolling series that has helped me from GCSEs to the end of A-levels.
