This photo was shot, but for some reason kept secret, several summers before Novakofski & Yontz teamed up to introduce the concept of "strap doubles" to ski shows. Show skiers may call this a variation of a Back Attitude, Needle or Star lift. Would start from a side step-up, to attitude – guy's hand on her thigh, to girl extending to split position. Two National Championship water ski tournaments were held in Wisconsin in 1975, the AWSA 3-event competition at Tomahawk and the first Show Ski Nationals in Janesville. Doubles at AWSA Nationals had been discontinued since 1966 but at Tomahawk was reprised as a demo of a new concept in doubles that would soon overtake the show ski world, by Jimmy Durham and Diane Wyatt from Greenville, SC. The D2 Show Ski Nationals, underway in Tomahawk this weekend, will feature multiple "strap doubles" performances.
