Crypto-Botany is the plant version of Crypto-Zoology (the people looking for Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster and other lost or mythic animals) they seek lost and mythic plants.  The one they have been seeking since the 19th Century is the Man eating tree of Madagascar.  Several early European and American explorers claimed to have seen the thing that was worshiped by the natives.  There are reports of such a thing in Mexico and South America.  So far the tree has been yet to be found, but they have discovered many amazing plants from a pitcher plant that eats mice and rats in Indonesia to the stinky and huge corpse flower--among others.   It is a field that deserves to be studied!
