So I am getting this Varsity quidditch jacket for a school event and the shop I'm getting it from allows you to decide position (Seeker, Keeper, Beater, or Chaser) And I was wondering if you had any knowledge of a way to discern your position besides personal preference( I tried taking online test but It never felt right/ accurate) If there is a way that you like I would love to see it (TBH I would play for Ravenclaw)
Okay. First off you are now obligated to hook us up with a link so I can buy myself a Gryffindor Beater varsity jacket just sayin'
As for how to determine what position you would be good at, its definitely not going to be a deep headspace adventure to figure that one out. Think back to gym class or the last sport you were involved in in general and analyze the specific skills you honed in the position you had/what physical skills were your strengths.
Offense or defense? That should narrow it down some, as Chaser and Seeker are more offensive positions and Beater and Keeper are more defensive. But here's a bit of a breakdown.
Chaser: A standard offensive position. Constantly active, but sharing the focus. Teamwork is most necessary between Chasers. A tactical position. If you can't think on the fly, then maybe Chaser isn't for you.Â
Keeper: A big possibility for lots of downtime, but you have to constantly pay attention, so a short attention span is bad here. You have to be fast, but its only for short distances. Minimal teamwork. You literally only have one responsibility, so if complex thought on the fly is difficult, that's okay. It is completely possible that you'll get a lot of heat if your team loses so you have to be prepared for that.
Beater: Generally muscley people. Upper body strength is a must. A lot of pent up rage can help if you're lacking in brute strength. If you're good with a bat at all, go for it. Some teamwork is needed here to insure that both bludgers are accounted for at all times between you and your teams other Beater. Also a decent position if you're not so great at thinking on the fly as you have one main mission, protect your team from bludgers, and a secondary mission, use the bludgers to knock the opponent off their brooms. Definitely a potential to get hate if anyone on your team gets hit, but at least you'll generally be sharing the blame.
Seeker: If you're hella observant/have super good vision then maybe seeker. If you're like HELL YEAH I SEE EVERYTHING! I KNOW THERE ARE EXACTLY 2 FLIES IN THIS ROOM RIGHT NOW AND THEY ARE RIGHT THERE *points aggressively at annoying flies* Then please be a Seeker, for the good of the team, yo. Especially if speed is your jam. Its a rather high stakes position. If you do your job, you're team (probably) wins and you're a hero! If you fail, then everyone knows. However due to all the other action, you're kind of playing the game alone. You don't really have to worry about the rest of your team, just worry about getting the snitch first...unless your house needs to earn a certain number of points first for the sake of rankings or whatever, but then its just a matter of waiting/faking your opponent out.
Plus there's aesthetic things to keep in mind as well. Quaffle, hoops, bludgers and bats, and the golden snitch each have a particular position that they represent, so that's something to keep in mind.
Also if you have a particular character you align with that played Quidditch, perhaps their position would be a good one for you to consider.
Please keep in mind I'm not really a "sports girl" and thus this is based more on logic than first hand experience. Though I did used to play soccer and I was always made to be keeper cuz I was tall and thus had long limbs and had the reach for it, but I was way too easily distracted to be any good, so I was never ready for the ball to be coming at me. I need to stay engaged the whole time.
