After a long moment during which he satisfied his aesthetic sense, he finally reached for it, blandly intent on satisfying some other senses as well. Touch, in the way his hands closed around the bottle's dusty surface, and smell, once the cork was off and the contents were breathing. Taste would come later. I had little understanding of such ritual for myself, but Alek's obvious enjoyment of the process had taught me to respect it.

Alek flinches. For the first time in eighteen years, he's scared of Strahd. Of the man Strahd has become.
this is the first of 3 pieces of spot art i did for the fic by @shaungilmore titled 'the consequence of devotion' in memento mori vol. 2!
i loved making these pieces to accompany this absolutely BEAUTIFUL fic retelling the fight between strahd and alek, but as alek experienced it :)
