The death toll resulting from severe storms and flooding across Greece, Turkey, and Bulgaria has tragically risen to eight individuals. Rescue efforts have been ongoing, with the recent discovery of a missing vacationer's body in northwestern Turkey, where floodwaters wreaked havoc at a campsite near the Bulgarian border.During this devastating event, flash floods washed away bungalow homes at the campsite, causing significant destruction. In addition to the campsite fatalities, two additional casualties were reported in Istanbul, Turkey's largest city, where heavy rains inundated numerous neighborhoods and workplaces. Among the victims was a 32-year-old Guinean citizen trapped in his ground-floor apartment in the Kucukcekmece district. The floodwaters left a trail of destruction, impacting over 1,750 homes and businesses within Istanbul alone, according to the Istanbul governor's office. Among the affected areas was the Ikitelli district, where shops suffered damage as parked vehicles were carried away, causing mud and debris to inundate furniture stores. The floods also forced individuals to seek refuge on the roof of a restaurant in a container and truck parking area on the outskirts of the city.In Greece, record-breaking rainfall resulted in at least one fatality near the central city of Volos, with an additional five people reported missing. Tragically, a man lost his life when a collapsing wall struck him. As a precaution, authorities restricted traffic in Volos, the nearby Pilion mountain region, and the resort island of Skiathos.Bulgaria also experienced the devastating effects of the storm, which led to floods along the southern Black Sea coast. This event claimed the lives of two individuals, with three others still missing. TV footage captured cars and camper vans being swept into the sea in the southern resort town of Tsarevo. In response, authorities declared a state of emergency in the town, urging residents to move to higher floors as floodwaters inundated ground-level hotel areas.
