“You seem such an amiable chap… how is it you spend so much time alone? Is it by choice?”

Because that was a normal way to start a conversation, wasn’t it? “Because I’d like to consider myself a cat person, but really I’ve just mostly had plants so far. And I moved into my father’s house recently, and it turns out that his ..... cat is still there.” Which was an understatement, given that the cat was a several century old leopard. “And I can’t figure out what to feed him because he’s .... he’s very large. Like really ... really large.”

   “Ah Christ.” Looking up to the sky, dark clouds formed, angrily dogpiling together. She should’ve read the weather, should’ve thought ahead for just a minute. Instead, here she stood on someone’s fire escape, anxiously staring up to the sky.

“Quite the companion you have there, Sir. What is its name? If I may ask.”

“ --- I just really need coffee and there’s that new cat café that opened down the street, and you’re the only one I know who’d actually want to go. You don’t have to talk, we can just look at cats and drink coffee. Totally up to you.”
