oh man I'm not entirely sure actually? although i think something I've exceeded at since the beginning is making my characters... Live in their world. like the world doesn't necessarily revolve around them? it's something i used to struggle with a lot and now it's nicely revolving <3 i also love how i describe things too hehe

So. Yes, there are! Specifically:

themes of healing and hurt

themes of using books as escapism/finding comfort in literature

the idea of "you deserve to be happy"

themes of people having grand destinies forced upon them that they never wanted to have

ok i got halfway through this and realized you said "motifs" not "themes". why did my brain go there. ANYWAY! whoops. here are some of those:

gfs: shadows are used as a symbol of safety and hiding, but later in the climax when the idea of hiding/running away from your problems is shown as bad, shadows start symbolizing fear and cold.

nt21: the monster symbolizes hurting others as a (very bad) coping mechanism. that entire book is about "i know you're hurting, and that is okay, but you can't hurt others just because you're in pain" and the monster is the peak of that.

gfs: glass. It's everywhere. ("glass" may or may not be in the actual name of the series....). It's used as a cue of emotional states; the more shattered/broken glass there is in a scene, the more likely it's going to be going badly for the character in that way.

- calls kiraan, who ends up breaking them out Once, the worst trainwreck they've seen since visiting the Ghost Isles

hemlock wants what's best for the underkeep and people like him. like him, meaning, disabled and chronically ill. he wants to give them a chance he was not able to have. and he's willing to do anything to give them that chance, including tearing down oraen piece by piece until they realize the underkeep's potential. he'll show them, he'll show them all---he always does.

MAN i have so many KJSDFHSHJ okay okay okay for ironbloods it's both kiraan and anjali's relationship as siblings as well as the bond between xiǎo hé, zofia, and kiraan. they're just... so important to me. keyless hearts... nico and hemlock. just. god they're on opposite sides until they're not and they're best friends and each other's worst nightmare. a monster is not a monster when you love it.

Kubbeh Soup: What motivates you to keep writing?

oh man okay so i've genuinely struggled with this a lot? because my writer's block has followed me for y e a r s T_T i've only broken out of it completely these past couple of months. what motivates me to keep going is.. i guess the fact that no one else is going to have a book like mine? if that makes sense. it's mine it gives me a sense of accomplishment, and it makes me keep going and dragging my feet forward. but listening to music and writing out these little animatic scenes that go through my head really helps too SDJFH

oraen is FUCKED okay like the whole reason nico and the crew even Go there is because it's the only other planet in their specific planetary system that can sustain life, and the planet they're on is slowly losing availability for food and water so they need to find a different resource yk

so even though they're even WARNED by this supposed survivor of oraen to Not go there, they go anyway (mostly for the money. because they're broke 💔) and it's fine at first it's sunny it's bright and it's f i n e it's fine. nothing is wrong ever 😩

but then dark falls and the once peaceful animals turn violent and are only warded off via sound or fire. and they think this is the only thing wrong with it and with increased security and weaponry they'll be okay

then they find the doors, and the alien technology, and hemlock goes missing, and helios ends up dead, and more murders follow, and shit goes DOWN !!
