Well, I’ve always been a big fan of Chell ever since I joined the fandom back in 2011. I’ve always felt as if she and I are very similar. Having had some less-than pleasant real life experiences I find I can relate. Clearly, I’m not trapped in an underground facility filled with artificial intelligences or am i, but I have been trapped in environments not ideal. Through that time, I knew that I couldn’t give up, that I had to keep fighting.
And that is, in my opinion, Chell’s most defining characteristic. She doesn’t give up. No matter what. She’s made a plan, and she’s going to stick with it, no matter what hell she’s put through. Don’t like it? Tough.
She’s her own person, and she does whatever she feels is necessary. If you gain her trust, then that means you’re pretty important to her. But if you break that trust? It’ll take quite a bit to get it back, even if you are someone she cares about.
And also, the fact that she’s silent. It’s been stated by VALVe that Chell can speak. But is she going to dignify the robots with a response? Nope. They’re not treating her fairly, why does she have to elicit special kindness to them? My Chell, however, speaks sometimes, depending on the verse/who she’s interacting with. I feel that she realizes words hold power- and she’s not going to waste that power with unneeded ones.
As to how/why I started officially RPing her? Well, I’d written for her before, in a number of small drabbles/ficlets, as well as a fanfiction I’ve not yet finished. At first my main blog, legendofstormfall, was for my OC, Stormfall, who had a Portal!Verse. If Chell was needed in the plot, I’d be willing to RP her as well. Then I started becoming more involved with Portal RPers, and saw some memes that would yield interesting plots with her. So I said, why not, I’ll try her out for a thread or two. Then, people started requesting I use her more, and sent starters for her. Over time, she just sort of became my main muse, and eventually I made this side blog for her, just a little thing. Didn’t expect this much popularity- now I regret having made this only as a side blog. I wish I’d made it separately.
