A store associate is an employee who works directly with the customer base of a retail outlet. These employees help customers and welcome customers, including answering questions or giving them information about the merchandise they're selling. Store associates must have good people skills and must be knowledgeable about the goods they're selling because they are the face of the business.

There are many types of store associates. A general store associate works for a general business like Best Buy. A cashier at a large grocery store might be a retail associate. They may also work as employees at a hotel or a car wash.

You can find retail store associate jobs at many different locations. If you are looking for a job in a specific store, ask their employment department for a list of their current vacancies. Some of the stores will be able to direct you to a job they've currently advertised for in that store.

Most retail outlets are willing to train their employees. You might be required to complete some training before you start working in the job. Many stores also pay for this training so they know that you will be able to do your job well. Be sure to get the proper training to get your foot in the door with that particular store.

When you are attending your first training course, make sure to bring all of your new skills with you. This way, when you go into a specific department, you will already know what you need to do to make the most of your job. The more you know, the easier it will be for you to learn how to make the most of your skills. You might have to do extra training if you want to move up a level from being a cashier to an assistant manager.

If you are not trained or educated, make sure to keep on top of any changes in the retail business to make yourself more marketable. It is always in your best interest to keep up with the latest trends. As the owner of a business, you want to make sure that your business is always on top of the changes that could affect your sales.

When you attend training classes, be sure to check the sales departments for sales clerks that are new to the business or are just beginning to learn their trade. Try to find people that are fun to talk to and always seem interested in your knowledge of the business. Some students do better in sales than others. So take your time in choosing your students to ensure that you get the person you feel most comfortable working with.

If you're a college student and you think that you'll be able to make more money than a retail associate that's been in the job for a long time, you may want to attend a college in your area. Many schools offer programs where you can earn associate degrees. These programs can help you get the experience you need for your future position. Once you graduate, be sure to look around and find out about local companies that hire people who are just getting their first associate degree.

Once you have received your training, you may want to consider going back to school to complete a Master's degree in retail associates. There are many ways that you can achieve this degree, and it is an excellent choice. This kind of education gives you the opportunity to advance to a higher level in the industry if you wish. After you have graduated, you will still be able to work at a job in your field even if you don't have a Master's degree on your resume.

A Master's degree can help you get a higher paying job because you will have a very specific area of expertise that will attract employers. companies that need the help of someone with this kind of experience. While you won't be able to run all the store locations or manage the entire store by yourself, the knowledge you gain is still valuable to these companies.

Make sure that you are careful when looking for a program that will help you get your training. If you are not sure, contact the local library or a local college. Don't be afraid to ask other people what kind of certification program they went through to get their training.

We have all been there before….too many times we walk into a retail store and begin searching for an associate only to find one who doesn’t have the information we are looking for or is unable to find it. When this happens, our frustration with the retailer builds almost immediately. Consumers armed with the latest and greatest technology will always have the upper hand on associates with their instant access to the information they need to make the buying decision. It seems time and again, the store associate is in a constant battle of playing catch-up in trying to provide a great customer experience.   

No, this is not another blog touting the importance of putting tablets or smart phones in the hands of store associates, but rather to question the notion that hand held devices are the right way to even the playing field with consumers. Today’s conventional wisdom advocates tablets and smartphones as an essential tool to enhance the customer buying experience. As some retailers begin to move in this direction and others continue to examine their overall customer engagement strategies, I would like to challenge the conventional wisdom by asking the question: “If all store employees had a smart phone or tablet, how would this impact the customer buying experience?”    

Great customer service requires being available, listening attentively, plus having the necessary useful information at your fingertips for customer questions. To make this possible, every person on the retail floor should be educated and connected to each other in order to encourage team selling.
