Utrecht, Netherlands -- Mellow down this morning with Stillwave’s newest track “‘94 Civic”, a blend of indie rock and folk rock for that perfect middle ground. The guitar is the main instrument on this track and I love the soft strumming with a bit of that alt rock songwriting. The lead vocalist has a gorgeous ring to his voice and the way he controls the sound levels is perfect for the structure of the song. They get louder on the chorus but quickly dim back to a mellow sound on the verses.

It’s difficult to read about Utrecht band Stillwave without seeing a comparison to The National and you can see why. With the trio’s dark, melancholy moments and baritone vocals, Stillwave have very much embraced the fuzzier side alternative rock. It’s a side known more for its overall feel than a solid hook and catchy chorus.

Earlier this week, Netherlands-based trio Stillwave released their new single “From Here”. This dark pop track is deliciously reminiscent of some of the earlier shoegaze bands I’ve written about since starting this blog. It reminds me of New Order in their early days mixed with some of The National’s more orchestral music. I love the dreaminess in the track that is reinforced beautifully with the musical composition. The instruments all come in at different times but they are blended right into the track.
