I love old photos! Found a folder with my 1st & 2nd ever solo shoots from 99/2000. That's an ART SGX Nightbass processor & an original Lexicon JamMan in the rack - the Nightbass was my 3rd ever processor (the 1st 2 being a Korg A4 & Korg AX300B) and was the 1st thing I ever wrote about for Bassist magazine. The JamMan was the 2nd. That red Modulus is the same 4 string I play now, refinished by Martin Peterson at The Gallery. By the time of the shoot with the Ashdown amp in 2000, I like to think my sense of style had improved, though the matching nails & jacket in the 4 string fretless photo is a strong look. At one time, Steve Lawson was considered one of the biggest names in Reformed circles. He was a high-caliber preacher who was admired by millions and respected by leading voices in Christianity. But he carried a dark secret for years while he spoke at conferences and was contracting with Trinity Bible Church to fill their pulpit every week, even though he wasn’t a member or their senior pastor on staff.Now, after nearly six months, Steve Lawson has broken his silence by posting on X about his repentance since he was caught having an affair with a woman over 40 years younger than him. Apparently, this young woman in her twenties had ties at Grace Community Church and graduated from The Master’s College, where Lawson was a Board member.As I’ve been reflecting on Steve Lawson’s recent confession, I can’t help but feel a mix of concern and skepticism about his so-called repentance. For years, he preached about holiness while exhibiting arrogance that raises red flags. I genuinely pray that his heart has changed, but as a fellow public Christian leader, I believe discussions about his return to ministry should be off the table for now. I really wonder who these pastors are that are supposedly holding him accountable. I’d challenge Steve to have them at least publicly verify they exist and are bonafide pastors. After all, he hasn’t been accountable to any leader or leadership group for a long time, so forgive me if I seem skeptical about his statements. Transparency is crucial here!
