TW: TORTURE, CANNIBALISM
Torture. Evan knew too much, far too young.
Pulling teeth, ripping finger nails, breaking bones. All basic, all simple. But physical wasn't all he knew.
When was the last time you saw a grown man cower in fear? When was the last time you saw someone dying of starvation, one limb missing and one plate of perfectly cooked meat in front of them and watched the argument within themselves? For Evan it was last seen when he was thirteen. He left for Filament two weeks later. The man he left behind already dead and gone.
The despair in ones eyes, the fear. It was incredible the power a child could have. It was terrifying the power a child could wield. He didn't want to wield it back then but that doesn't change the fact it was second nature. To make a man cave to eating his own flesh was a high that Evan had ridden over and over again. To make a man beg for his family to be spared as Evan gently took out the photos from a file, only to notice that his daughter was the same age as himself was a conflict within that became routine.
How foolish humans could be. Begging for others as the life faded from their own eyes. But Evan understands why now. Evan still feels the rage and hatred within him, even in this form and even as he converses with the monster who took her life.
Tell me, have you ever seen a man beg for his innocent mother to be spared? Have you ever seen one on their knees, crying and pleading as she bled out? Evan has. Evan has done it before. And his flowers still bloom and his garden still flourishes and the world still turns. Now the real question is would he trade it all for his grudge? All his flowers and all his veggies and all his friends? Which is more real, Hide or Evan?
He is a Sterling, even in death.
