Jacobus Henricus van ‘t Hoff – Scientist of the Day

Jacobus Henricus van 't Hoff, Jr., a Dutch chemist, was born Aug. 30, 1852, in Rotterdam. 

Menthol is the substance that defines a mint’s signature flavor. Menthol itself is naturally found in one specific stereoisomer, an arrangement of the molecule’s atom. Like how capsaicin triggers heat sensors to simulate heat, menthol is known to trigger TRPM8 receptors which usually detect temperature drops. Thus, menthol really does make one feel cooler.

Minint (Grass/Ice): Minints blow out a breeze that many find refreshing; however, there is no temperature drop in their breath. Minints can tell when someone is in pain to which they try to help ease with their signature scent.
