The Origins of Mono Man and Stereo Man
ktru has used mono man and stereo man as icons since the 1970s, and the images have shown up on posters, shirts, etc.
Mono man originated on the cover of the IBS Journal of College Radio, and stereo man an advert for TRW.
The story goes that, for stereo man, we wrote to the graphic design firm that had created the image to ask permission to use it. Apparently the creator was getting on in age, and was tickled that we would want to use the image. We were granted permission to use it, but asked us to send a couple of shirts their way.
I know I have that letter somewhere; Hopefully I can find it.
