Alright so—

It hasn’t quite been my first anniversary with Touken Ranbu, but it has been far longer that I have known Kashuu Kiyomitsu. Even after watching the horrid english dubbing of Touken Ranbu Hanamaru, I loved him then. Now that I play the game often and new ones have been added, he  is still my number one.

The big brother title. How does it work in the minds of our beloved swords?

Well, it doesn’t depend on age at all, in most cases. It actually depends on personality (how caring or responsible the sword is) and height. Hence why Horikawa (even though he’s still technically the oldest anyways) is still considered the “eldest brother” in the Kunihiro trio. He’s known to be the most caring, least problematic, and the most responsible out of the three.

Lets think back to the Toushirous. Ichigo is obviously not the oldest, as pointed out in the wiki, however he is considered to be the “eldest brother” by Awataguchi tantous because of how responsible and caring he is for all of them. Also, he’s known to be the tallest.

Jiroutachi and Taroutachi are not actually brothers. This we know, due to various sources posted on our blog, however, he still insists on calling Taroutachi his “big brother” despite being older and not related to Taroutachi. This is because Jiroutachi has the utmost respect for Taroutachi and believes that he deserves the title “big brother”. Not just because he’s taller (obviously), but also because is the one who cares for Jiroutachi the most. He’s the one who looks after him like a big brother, even though Jiroutachi knows that he probably doesn’t deserve the type of care, due to his recklessness and drunkardness.

When I first joined the fandom, I had trouble remembering all the names of the swords, so I gave them funny nicknames based on certain traits/memes I knew about them.
