Divine Comedy

Heās been to many worlds in the days and the months leading up to this moment. A fugitive running away from a god that loathed him for his rebellion-- for his desire to protect the lives of those who fought so hard to survive. Funny how, now that he looks back on it, he could almost state that he held regret for what he did to humanity. He realized too late the error of his ways, how humans fought just as hard to survive as any other living thing, the only difference was that they were smart enough to bloom into a race capable of living past survival. They became living angels... If only he realized sooner then maybe-- A pain in his heart. He always thought of Akira when he was alone. The first thing he ever loved truly and fully. He turned him into a devilman hoping, praying that heād stay by his side post revelation but... That never happened.
He supposed God was laughing at him from behind the not-so-golden-gates of heaven. Laughing at the divine comedy turned tragedy which unfurled itself unto the world that he had given to Adam and Eve. A shiver ran through his body, wings wrapping tightly around his flesh as though protecting him from the cold. He couldnāt feel it, despite bare flesh being exposed, his naturally frigid skin felt warm in any amount of light, in any temperature, and yet despite the fact his skin felt warm everything else did not. He was in a world now that was once again controlled by man. Albeit not nearly as far along as those of his world. Either this was the past of a different universe, or humans were just moving at a slower pace here. Regardless, his powers of trickery hid him from most eyes. People could look directly at him and not even notice that he was walking among them, quite literally a wolf in sheepās clothing. Even when he touched someone they seemed to be confused about what brushed against them before forgetting about it.
If only he knew that these people were pinning phantom touches upon him without his realization. They were speaking of ghosts and ghouls when really it was just the devil passing by. It wasnāt until he spotted Big Ben that he realized where he was. London, England, the heart of Britain. If his degree in archaeology held firm, even now, then this must be the Victorian Era at least. But not one that he would know. Step by step he walked among man, while he accepted them and understood his mistake, to say he liked them would be a lie. No, they were foolish, arrogant, and selfish creatures. He pitied them for their idiocy, and loathed them for their cruelty, but he couldnāt kill them here. Otherwise heād be just as unjust as the God he sought refuge from, just as cruel and hateful. He wrapped his wings closer around him, blond hair framing his features as he walked, the wind ruffling his feathers and hair, it was strange how the Earth knew he was here but those living like parasites upon it didnāt.
He quickly grew tired of the hustle and bustle, the constant noise and the people rushing about here. Would it be so surprising that eventually heād begin travelling once again. Those wings unfurling and the sky becoming his destination. That sudden gust of wind which blew away hats and news papers must have been quite the fright for those poor humans caught in it. Despite everything he was still as mischievous and chaotic as ever, good to see that not all of him died along with Akira. He flew for a while, just taking in the sights of this world. How unanimously beautiful and ugly it was. Nature had yet to be completely obliterated, but at the same time the beginning of the worldās decline has started with he Industrial Revolution. As the day grew later and the sun began to drift lazily down beneath the horizon, it became more apparent to him that perhaps finding a place to rest would be smart. He still didnāt know what exactly lurked in this world.
He would have picked a forested area to rest, a nice pond or creek to sleep next to despite not truly needing it other than to dream of a world he believed heād never see thrive again(truly if only he knew of the fate he held when he returned), if not for the fact that he sensed something. It was something all too familiar, and yet all too different. A demon... There were demons in this world! They werenāt the demons that he knew, but they were demons nonetheless. He came closer, investigating quietly what this place was, being careful to remain hidden from all but those who hold supernatural prowess. It didnāt take long for him to realize that in this world demons coexisted with humans, they didnāt merge, they didnāt do anything of the sort. It was most likely that they made contracts with them like they do in the bible. He let himself drift to the ground, his feet landing among the grass so delicately that it disturbed none of the life that wasnāt immediately beneath his feet-- even then there would be no imprint of his ever being there when he left.
His hand went to his chest, clutched tightly over his heart. This world was... so strange but yet so wonderful. If only Akira was here-- he was sure this would be the world he could live with him in. If only... He looked up to the sky, gazing up into the wonder that was held up above, stars which seemed to be judging him from so far away. He remembered hearing stories from Psycho Jenny that those stars were the other angels which hadnāt fallen like he had. He knew that wasnāt true, but it was a bedtime story to tell a child who was very soon to be the anti-christ. He didnāt know he was crying until a teardrop fell from his chin and onto his breast. Silent tears, he became notorious for that didnāt he? He hurt, he would admit it, he hurt and ached like never before. Any physical pain was better than the emotional pain he carried. Curled up like a baby in unknown worlds, crying himself into a dream that he wished he never had to wake up from. A divine comedy at itās finest.
He would just make his temporary living where the forest met the land of an Earl that he knew no name of. He would rest here for the night, a weeping angel with wings pure as snow and feathers which held his power. Light as a feather and as elegant as a snowflake upon the chilly wind, he found himself a nice place beneath a tree. Here he watched a burrow of foxes sneak out of their home for a meal that their mother brought them. Here he watched some deer hop by unknowing to him, some right over him as though he were a log or a rock. Here he nursed his throbbing heart with the fresh scars splayed wide, and found himself drifting. In the night he saw the flickering candlelight in the windows of the estate, watched the figures move from window to window. The demon inside-- what did they know? Could they sense him here? Did they know that Satan, prince of darkness, ruler of Hell, and thief of souls was so close? He didnāt know... He didnāt care. No mortal or demonic weapon could harm him any longer.
Brilliant blues drifted close as sleep stole him away. He happily dreamed of Akira, knowing full well that when he woke heād only be hurting. He dreamed of his warmth, his laughter, his tears, his determination, his everything.Ā āThere are rabbits on the moon...ā Akiraās sweet voice echoed in his brain.Ā āThe moon is so beautiful...ā He danced around the three words that he needed to speak to him before he died.Ā āI love you.ā He should have said it but he didnāt, he never could fully say it. Regret, he was so full of regret. Nestled quietly against a tree, the fallen angel slept unawares and uncaring to any that dare approach. His disguise falling with his sleep. Any late night hunter or animal could see him... While animals were knowing of an angel when they saw one, humans were not. Cocooned in his wings as he were, cradled in his own makeshift blanket, he slept as he was. A heartbroken deity.
Truly a divine comedy.
