Hi! I saw your ask comparing TWD and Les Mis, and I just wanted to comment. :) I don't particularly agree in that it's a very accurate comparison, but I think there is a chance that maybe one of the writers is sticking that stuff in there on purpose. A small chance, though. The candlesticks could be a huge coincidence, and the little girl trope seems like a dangling fish hook to give him something to grasp at Penny's place.
i figured I’m probably grasping at straws. But I just can’t let go of the candlesticks. The Bishop giving Valjean the candlesticks was such a moving part of Les Mis for me that it was my former URL (youforgotthecandlesticks). And I just kept thinking, if it is a coincidence, you’re right, it’s a huge coincidence. I mean, they have lanterns all around the room, there’s also a lot of other types of candles. WHY CANDLESTICKS at the moment right before he reveals that he’s changed his name? One possible (and very feasible) explanation is aesthetic value. After all, candlesticks are very pretty. Still, I can dream, can’t I? Thanks for your input though.
