But here we have to realize that while the show ran for 6 years (no thanks to CN and their stupid Hiatus obsession), canonically, only 2 years passed in the show since the events of Gem Glow.

(Geez Steven- poor boy is probably not even celebrated his 15th bday yet, what a roller coaster ride of a puberty)

So where does Cubic Zirconia come in?

Well, 6000+ years is a loooong time- enough time to live through resource crisis, start new Era of gem creation, develop new technologies... And grieve.

We all know that both Blue and Yellow grieved for Pink after her ‘shattering’- but I believe White grieved too, in her own, I-am-suppressing-emotions flawed way. It has been hinted, both by Yellow and Blue, that White (while the biggest recluse there is) would, in fact, spend some time with other Diamonds if Pink was there. Playing games in their collective bath, or attending balls that Pink had organized. She had a soft spot for Pink, allowing her to be close and giving her a nickname- even if her ‘affections’ are marred by the fact she considers Pink’s light to be a ‘fault’ and that she supresses the Pink that is inside of her all the time. Harshly punishing any misconduct.

But then Pink was shattered. Blue wept for eons, Yellow choose to overwork herself while wallowing in self-blame for eons, and White... White was suddenly completely alone. No-one to disturb her, no-one she could berate- no-one to spend playing games with, no-one to dote on (in her own disturbing way).

She was puzzled by this loss, most likely. Confused. The traitors has been punished for their crime (as she believed life on Earth to be wiped out), and yet, things didn’t feel okay, they didn’t feel perfect. She had no idea why, and the reason being grief probably haven’t even crossed her mind. So she thought to herself, ‘What is missing?’ and the answer was obvious: Pink Diamond.

But with her view on existence of everything and everyone, she didn’t think abour our Pink- she thought of Pink Diamond, the concept; the fourth ruler of Homeworld. Obvious solution? Make another Pink Diamond.

Then the Authority will be whole again, and everything would be perfect.

Only how hard is it to make new Diamond, really- how much effort, how many recources, and especially at that time, Era 2? When recources are dwindling?

She probably made this her personal project, most likely overseeing the creation through her Pearl- but she had to make cuts, and that affected the outcome- and instead of a Diamond, a Diamond-look-alike was ‘born’.

To be specific, a Pink Diamond look-alike.

Pink Cubic Zirconia.

(CZs are, after all the most known diamond substitutes created)

It should have been the solution- only it wasn’t. Perhaps White had her dress like Pink-

(you notice in the silhouette of the villain that she might be wearing shoulder-pads similar to Pink’s)

-White probably called her ‘Pink’- perhaps called her ‘Starlight’ as well? But things weren’t okay- perhaps the new Pink tried, but was not enough for White- and so White tossed her aside, and paid her no attention anymore.

Abandoned her.

Maybe she did all this- this project of hers- without Blue’s or Yellow’s knowledge, and that left Pinky completely and utterly alone, on Homeworld, without purpose.

But who to blame for her misfortune? 

White Diamond, her creator, her parent-mentor that she probably adored?

Or Pink Diamond, who even after her supposed death, stole any sort of chance for affection and validation?

I could very well imagine the bitterness she might held towards her ‘perfect’ sibling after that.

Would she be bitter enough to have her revenge on Pink Diamond’s son because of that? Definitelly. Sort of, “I suffered, so you will too” sort of a deal.
