Rue and Alma get close not only because theyâre there for Nata, but also because Rue canât handle losing another handler. Hi. Pet names. So Rueâs not really that big on pet names, because she usually just calls people by their job title. Thats just what she does. She spends nearly their entire pre-relationship calling Alma âHandlerâ, Gemma âSmithyâ, and Olivia âHunterâ. And even when they said she can call them by their names, she barely did that.
Once they get closer? Thatâs a first name basis baby. The first time Rue called Alma by her name was when they were kissing for the first time. The first time it happened with Olivia was during the Jin Dahaad fight. The first time with Gemma was when she was sleepily half-curled around her. All of these women were snuggling with her before Rue actually called them by their first names.
But to Rue, calling someone by their name is INTIMATE. Thats something that happens between close friends, lovers, and family. Itâs a cultural thing, though everyone in her village was close enough to be on first names or aunt/uncle status.
And even while sheâs not a big fan of pet names/nicknames, she does have one assigned to each of her girlfriends. Gemmaâs got âDragongemâ, Almaâs got âDearâ, Oliviaâs just got âLivâ.

Complicated question considering there aaare four of them and Iâm not entirely sure the legality of polyamorous marriage in the monhun world but I want to say theyâve made their relationship very obvious and well-known on the expedition. And threw a party about it. With fancy outfits and vows.
But if they DO get legally officially gay married in pairings I think it would probably Rue marrying Olivia and Alma marrying Gemma. I think that Hunter/handler marriages would probably be a little less approved of by people in general. Not that it really matters to any of them theyâre all wives now.
