By far the coolest show this class went to and one of the best gallery showings I have been to in my life! I previously taught video and art to middle schoolers in Jackson Heights, Queens and this is definitely one of the best galleries I could have taken them to. I was always trying to figure out ways to incorporate political education and media in my classes. What is amazing about Priya’s Shakti is how it tackles such a violent and delicate issue in a way that is accesible.Â
Talking about rape and rape culture is never easy but the way Ram Devineni incorporates comics, VR, and tradition to tackle such a deep-seated issue was incredible and effective. This project inspired me (as well as Frances) to start a project of our own where we would do videos about women and gender non conforming people speak about their fantasies when they are being harassed on the street. We still haven’t figured out how to incorporate various forms of media but Devineni’s project is definitely a great start for us as a source to look up to.Â
