When I first launched the boat, I didn’t have much of a clue about rigging the sail, nor did I give it much thought, I just wanted to go sailing. Through osmosis, and by following the wooden boat forum, I began to realise that maybe the way I had laced the sail to the yard, was sub optimum! I found a text description on the traditional way to make robands on the forum, tried it out, got confirmation from the poster that I had made them correctly and decided to describe with lots of pictures here, how they are made. They are fiddly and time consuming, but they look good, make it easier to remove the sail from the yard and hopefully give the sail a better shape when in use.
