so, after st5 i wanted to rewatch the whole show to compile all the questions left unanswered in one doc for my sanity, but in the end i only rewatched s1 and my hyperfixation faded. idk when i'll get back to it
still, @daughter-of-athena009 as per your request, here's the list of my questions to st1
[consider that i only watched the show and only count the show as canon source so if some of these questions were explained in books/comics—i don't know and frankly i don't care]
Was Will targeted from the beginning? Was he being followed from the Wheelers' house? If not, why did the light flicker?
Who unlocked the door to Will's house, when he was being chased by the demogorgon?
Why did El show herself to Mike & Co in the forest? Why did she trust them? Surely, she saw the lights and could run away. They didn't find her, she found them. Why?
Who is LN+CH [iirc]? These initials are seen on one of the photos at the Byers' when they're trying to find some photo of will to put on a missing poster. There's literally no one by such names in the show
How did Will call Joyce from the UD? I don't buy that he used a walkie like they've shown in a comic
How did Will figure out how to work the lights?
How does El know Will's face and that he's in danger? Did she see him in the woods or...?
Why did the wall stretch in s1 when the demo attacked, but in s5 it breaks? Continuity error or?
Are the demos attacking people randomly for prey or do they follow orders? Or both? Will was 99% targeted, but what about all other victims?
Why did El call the Upside Down that? Did she come up with the name herself or is it what they called it in the lab? But how, if it allegedly was created on Nov 6 when El opened the gate?
Why did the demo (?Vecna?) beckon Holly with the christmas lights to Will's room? Why not attack her right there in the kitchen and take two more people at the same time? Why Holly specifically? Was that when she was targeted by Vecna?
And why did the demogorgon repeatedly try to attack Joyce? It's attracted by blood, as shown by Jancy, Barb, a deer and probably those two hunters whose names i don't remember. Sheppard dude walked into the UD. Will and Holly were targeted. Why Joyce? She wasn't bleeding. Was she in the way or smth?
How did El "accidentally" find the demo when she was spying on the soviet soldier? Did the demo find her instead? Next time when she established contact with it there was a clock ticking sound in the background even though there are no clocks near the sensory deprivation tank and scene-wise it would make more sense to use a heartbeat sound effect as she was scared. Does it mean that Vecna orchestrated this whole encounter so that she opened the gate?
Why is there no water in the UD? And if there's no water, how is it all slimy and gooey... There's clearly some liquid, why no water?
Why are the demogorgons nocturnal? Is there even a night in Dimension X? That is, if they truly come from Dimension X. Or are they not nocturnal, and Vecna just coordinated their attacks to happen at night to avoid unwanted attention?
Why didn't the demo follow Nancy through that tree? Was it more interested in a deer or is it because it's Nancy?
Literally why did Brenner gift El a potted plant the morning before they made contact with a demo and she opened the gate? That's so random
How did El even open a gate by just touching a demo and freaking out? In s4 Vecna had to kill people to create gates. Is it strong emotions what created the cracks?
How did El get out of the tank after she opened the gate? Someone had to help her out, and then she had to clean up the blood, dry herself and change into a gown, and then run away. They made it seem like she bolted right after she opened the gate because the lab became almost instantly infested, but that can't be true
Why is El even wearing that gown all the time? We've seen their uniform in s4, why is she always in a hospital gown? Does she need constant medical attention or did the creators just forget about the ever-present gown in s4?
Why did Vecna use Will and Barb as incubators for the demos? In s1e8 Hopper finds an egg in the woods, so clearly demos can reproduce without another body. There are no people in Dimension X or wherever they come from. Why do this at all? Just for the horror of having your body used?? :/
Why did Brenner refuse to look for Will? Isn't he basically the second Henry? You would think Brenner would be interested in him. Did they decide he wasn't worth the risk or venturing to the UD?
Why did they fake Will’s death when he was alive and fake Barb’s running away when she was alive? Why fake a death at all? Why were they so scared that somebody finds Will but not Barb?
How could they create a perfect replica of Will's body, how did they know what he looked like in detail? Did they not make a body for Barb because they couldn’t recreate it or because they didn’t want there to be two deaths so close to each other, because that would ensue panic?
What about those two hunters, what did the lab say about them?
Brenner says that six people were taken "this week". Known victims are Will, Barb and those two hunters. Who are the other two? Sheppard and that one scientist from the beginning? Or do they not count because they're not civilians, and there are two other victims who we know nothing about?
Who was that skeleton in the UD library? The body can't be older than 6 days, but all the flesh is gone already. Eaten? Barb went missing on Nov 7 and her body is relatively intact, just decomposing
Why were all the victims (or at least half of them) brought to the library just to be tossed there, with Will being the only one tied to the wall by the vines? Why not just throw them somewhere else, what's the use for them?
Why did the demo easily knock down the classroom door in s1 but struggle for like a minute to open the Wheelers' bathroom door...?
i think that's about it. there's also a whole other list of things i noted down for theorizing or things that would matter for the other seasons' rewatch, but because i dropped the rewatch it's temporarily irrelevant. if (when) my hyperfixation returns one day and the questions will still remain unanswered, maybe i'll continue rewatching and make another list like this one
