I genuinely love the increasing popularity in indie RPG spaces of the system reference document as final product. I've seen so many indie RPGs whose authors clearly just wanted to explore the design space of this one stupid dice trick, and viewed the need to build an actual game around it as an unwelcome chore – I think the recognition that you don't actually have to do that is good for the hobby. It's 100% acceptable to write several thousand words about the nuances of a particular way of rolling dice, then chuck it at the reader's head and go "here, you figure it out what to do with it".
