So, one thing that’s really important to remember about romantic/sexual orientations and identities is that there are TONS of them. The aspec community kinda gets a ton of criticism for having so many “unnecessary labels,” but the truth is that romantic and sexual attraction are really hard to identify and understand, and specific labels can really help.

I definitely think that you are aromantic, but that your aromanticism can be better understood if we look at the terms other people have come up with, because other people have had the same questions as well.

I recognized your thing about having like, “fantasy” crushes where you’re only really interested because it’s not realistic or possible. I looked up aromantic identities, and there’s quite a few lists out there.

The label you are looking for could be aegoromantic/autochorisromantic (phew, big words). The definition I found online is

Someone who enjoys the idea of romance, but not wishing to be a participant in romantic activities (based off of autochorissexual / a disconnection between oneself and a romantic target or fantasy).

You should definitely look into some other labels, because I think there are more than I found in my brief search. If it comes down to it, you could also coin your own label, if you think it would fit.

So yeah, other people have doubted their aromanticism because of their fantasies/love of romanticism, and they came up with a label that still fits under the arospec umbrella, while describing their attraction a little more specifically.

I’m sorry if John ends up a little ooc – it takes a couple attempts for me to get familiar with different people/character but nonetheless here you go! :)

you had suggested finding a vacation home shortly after The Beatles decided to try and begin postponing touring for as long as physically possible

you could see it in everyone, they were all tired and sick of having to deal with so many screaming fans and sneaky-fast-getaways

especially John

the light and mischief in his eyes had faded to the point of nonexistence

he had gotten quieter too. 

long gone were the days when he’d putter around the house cracking dirty jokes and puns left right and centre, making you laugh till your cheeks hurt 

“let’s move to the country!”

that had been your initial suggestion. you thought it would be a nice change of scenery from the grey of the city.

“Y/N, we’ve still got to record. I can’t just move 4 hours away from the rest of the group-”

“Then let’s buy a summer home then. and when you’re not recording, we can spend some time there!”

almost within seconds the light returned to John’s eyes. 

you’ll never forget how he got up from the table and picked you up almost effortlessly, spinning you in a circle as a smile bloomed on his face like a sunflower.

you’d settle for a nice little cottage, surrounded by almost an acre of trees and garden space

moving day consisted mostly of the two of you running through the trees, whooping like teenagers, nearly drunk on the feeling of being free and far away from all the press and the fans

both of you had each claimed a spare bedroom for your own hobbies

John had all his music equipment in one, you had your painting supplies and canvases and sketchbooks in the other.

some days you’d spend the whole day cuddled on the window seat, gazing out into the garden and telling stories absentmindedly

and cracking jokes

having a competition to see who could fit the most puns into a conversation

other days John would spend most of his time writing and recording in his studio

so you’d go off into your art studio to sketch and mess around with paint techniques

you hadn’t meant to paint John – you just let your mind guide your brush on the canvas

“If living in the country is what it takes for you to paint my portrait luv, I would’ve done this years ago.”

you jump and almost ruin your painting as you whip around and see John smirking at you admirably

he’s leaning against the doorframe with a sparkle in his eye

he has an idea

he’s definitely up to something

John runs off, yelling over his shoulder for you to “wait right there!”

he comes back with a handful of daisies, sunflowers, and tulips, and sits cross-legged on the floor in front of you, flowers circling him like a giant halo of sorts

“John what on earth are you doing?”

“Hush, I’m keeping you busy. Now come on then, grab that sketchbook of yours and start drawing.”

“…you want me to draw you just like that? You don’t mind?”

Here comes the good ol’ John Smirk again

“Well I’ve got to brag to the boys about something when we get back, don’t I?”

you giggle, and John kisses you on the forehead and pulls you in for a hug before presenting you with a pencil he had hidden behind his back.
