Square Organics Squarebars: Chocolate Coated Peanut Butter Vegan Protein Bar Review

I’ve got square eyes this morning - square for peanut butter.

Chocolate Crunch and Coconut Squarebars have already had their presence known in the reviewing section of my blog, but today’s instalment is for their newest flavour, Peanut Butter.

Yet again, we have a square protein bar covered in chocolate. As they all do, this looks appealing and rich, but this one has a slight gap in it though - do you see that hole in the bottom left?

Small niggles aside, I got a great whiff of that usual, rich, chocolatey smell that the others have approached me with. Yet... this one has a seductively peanutty hit.

Snapping the bar into pieces seemed lightly easier than with other bars, as it does seem harder and more robust than the othr flavours I’ve tried so far.

Peanut pieces fleck the bar as well, which is a welcome addition given it is peanut flavoured.

Nibbling my way through does in fact report that the bar is firmer = but not in a chewy nor gooey sense. It almost reminds me of a soft, tablet-like fudge or caramel. I think it’s because peanut butter is quite good at binding and solidifying mixtures. It’s very tasty too!

None of that dry, rice protein-y clagginess was detected either. All I got was a natural sense of peanut butter without having to use weird artificial flavours, as this isn’t trying to be ‘low fat’.

The chocolate coating pairs especially well with the peanut butter and provides just the right amount of cocoa to balance out the peanut without making the chocolate the star of the show.

Taste Rating: 8.5 (Excellent combination, well executed)

Texture Rating: 8/10 (Although this is firmer than the other bars, it is by no means chewy. I also rather enjoyed how it reminded me of soft fudge, especially as the chalkiness was limited.)

Value Rating: 6/10 (I know these are organic and stuff, but $30 dollars (even with free domestic US shipping) is quite steep - but to be honst, these are my favourites so far and I might pay that anyways! However, the people at Squarebars did give me a discount code that brings boxes down to $23.99 which I think is much more reasonable. The code is BALANCEDNOTCLEAN and you can find more about it here. Nutrition Rating: 7/10 (This is one of their higher calorie bars, but it is tasty, vegan, filling, gluten free and organic, so in my book that’s nutritious.)

One trend I am noticing amongst these bars is that they do convey their flavours well. Some protein bars (and other snacks) can be a bit hit and miss when trying to depict a flavour - but so far, Square Organics have done a good job.
