Season 4: Episode 8: Midseason Finale= A-
So, background first: For the context of Josie (Not Kaylee Bryant), does Caroline just pull a Gossip Girl-esque allowance for the twins. Josie and Lizzie through the seasons haven't voiced any worries (financially, parent-approved?) when they leave town. They leave notes and just vamoose. Josie is skipping town; she's not going to see/stay with Caroline, I don't think (which would make more sense). I'm glad Finch stayed. And I like her line: ''Boundaries can feel like a betrayal to people.'' I felt that. Go, Josie! Go, Alpha Finch!
Now in regard to Kaylee Bryant. Great job for getting cast in a movie and I know she will be awesome. I wish that it meant she would just be missing for the rest of the season (to film the movie) and then come back in season 5 (if Legacies is lucky), instead of just leaving the show entirely, but alas, it wasn't meant to be.
All of that being said. All the fans and Josie lovers out there who are ready to strick and quit watching the show. Please don't. I understand the loss. I promise you everyone in this fandom universe does. But after Josie, I'm sure there were other things and people in the show that are well-liked. Other ships, other storylines, potential storylines, etc. New characters! Maybe we'll get more newbies who turn out to be our favorites. Some of our favorite characters don't always start at the beginning. All I'm saying is, this was a hit for everyone. Just hang in there. My favorite part of Legacies was the 'Gemini Twins' and all that meant with them and now Lizzie is flying solo and there aren't anymore Lizzie x Hope x Josie moments (which were my favorite!). However, I still am looking forward to MG, Kaleb, Cleo, Hope, Lizzie, hell! Even Ted! Maybe another TVDU character will guest star. Who knows!? I do want to know though. The show still holds enough interest for me to keep asking myself ''what happens now?'' So, I will be staying tuned to see for myself. Think about doing the same.
I knew Hope's humanity wasn't back on. Don't get me wrong! I love the enemies-to-sisters thing Lizzie and Hope have going on, but that's just it. Hope being a part of Lizzie's family, her loving her? That isn't a surprise. It wasn't a big revelation. Hope may not be ''mushy-mushy, let's talk about our feelings, lovey-dovey'', but I know she knew that Lizzie loved her. That wouldn't click on her humanity. I hope Lizzie grabbed more than one stake from that pile, just in case. I honestly am waiting for someone to take a page out of Klaus's book and dip a dagger in red oak ash and put Hope in a coffin. I'm positive that that type of punishment was in Alaric and Stefan's journal and no one thought to mimic it?
I applaud Lizzie in this episode. I know I was gung-ho about Lizzie being a fearless warrior and going after Hope, but even I have to admit to myself that I don't want Hope dead. I just like the fact that Aurora one-upped her (mentioned in last review 4x07). Lizzie killing her however, I couldn't picture it. Lizzie becoming a heretic (possibly? ''all I am is hungry'') (feels like a cop-out since Kaylee is leaving so that leaves Jenny) due to Hope killing her? I did see that coming. It was one of my heretic theories. I mentioned last episode that I wondered who Hope would mimic for the return of humanity: Elena or Caroline? And while for a second I thought it may be Elena (humanity on-she killed Matt-Matt had Gilbert ring on)-(kill Lizzie-humanity on-heretic!Lizzie). I'm actually glad it's not. That means Legacies is going in a new direction with the no!humanity trope and I'm looking forward to seeing what Hope does next. Before she realized Triad was after her, she was just drinking in dive bars and feeding. Nothing big. Just wandering around. Now that Triad is taken care of...what is she going to be doing? Sure, track down Aurora and kill her but what about afterward?
I was wondering how Lizzie became a heretic. Whose blood turned her?
I know the storyline is Josie going to figure out how to turn Hope's humanity back on, but since Josie (KB.) isn't coming back, I hope they don't leave it off for good. While no!humanity tribrid Hope is a blast to watch. Too much of a good thing and all. I want to see how she copes and deals with her actions afterward also. All the people she hurt and killed. I want to see that journey too.
Ethan...hmm...I knew it! I knew this would blow up in their faces! I thought for a second that Lizzie did mind tap him and made him say they went on a walk and all that jazz, but nope! Ethan did it! To save the school, whatever! He said it! Because Lizzie asked him! Lizzie is now in between a friendship. Ethan's lies are now in between the Super Squad. In Ethan's defense, however, I don't think MG has the right to kick him out of the school. The Squad? yes. The School? no.
Well, what's left of it. How are they going to cope! Kaleb may leave. Josie is leaving. That leaves Lizzie, MG, Jed, Wade, Finch, and Cleo. All due respect to these upstanding supernatural beings but...to take down/get back Hope. They are gonna need a bit of 'oomph.'
So, Alaric, Ted, and Landon need more than one coin? I knew it wouldn't be that easy. Landon is adorable, helping Ted, awww.
You guys, I know we want a break from Handon, but with the way things look: Landon will be coming back to bring back Hopes' humanity. Now, I don't think they will get back together afterward. This season is supposed to be Handon-free, but, yea. That's my theory. Landon to bring Hope back, but not together. Maybe they will find two other people to be with or they will just be solo and working on themselves. Who knows.
Plus, the sphynx is back. His next clue/prophecy is definitely bringing them back and that just helps my theory.
Legacies finally acknowledged that this show does take place at school. That teachers exist and that these students have class? The interim principal however is weak. He has to go.
Cleo and Kaleb are official! The shining light of this episode. Go, King and Queen!
The new monster looks nice! His triggering the monster in everyone is very bad, but he looks nice, and with one sentence he seems like he will be helpful! This may be their 'oomph'!
Beautiful sister goodbye. Tears! The last Lizzie and Josie scene guys! From now on, Josie will join Caroline's name that's floating around the school and always mentioned but never to show their face again.
A-! I was worried there for a while. Legacies was letting me down, but this isn't so bad. A minus for bittersweet. Character came. Character left. Lizzie died. Came back to life. Hope lost. Hope found (the feeling. Not the person.) Bittersweet closing till next year.
Happy Holidays! See you in '22!
