The war brought eternal winter, soldiers fighting to be the one who wins their side the war. They freeze to death and cut off limbs infected with frostbite, they winter started years ago when the war began. My love, they sent you out there. They took you from our safe warm home to be infected by this so called fight. You are not a fighter but a lover. We sent our secret correspondents for they did not know of us, but my love you have not sent word for months now.
My heart pleads for your encouragement. Like a dog who has not been feed for weeks. I wondered if they found out or maybe you could not get parchment. I yearned to know if you got injured. My love I wish for you to come home. I hear a knock on my wooden door, I open it only to find news that your blood now stains on the snow.
In my sadness I have weeped myself to sleep. Sorrow fully engulfed my dreams and I have no hope left in me. My dreams turned to nightmares in eternal slumber that greats me with pain. A knife to my thoughts. I have learned to be patient in hopes to awaken soon. A lifetime spent waiting for you in my dreams, but you never came. I accept it now.
My eyes flutter open, I have awoken to spring, roots have grown from my body that has splayed out, flowers grown in through my mouth. I am not able to move, but content I am again to see bees pollinating and birds chirping in the new overgrow world of my abode.
What do you do when you can't have a second Halloween? Why, Spring into Horror, of course! I love this event, second only to FrightFall . P
In my usual fashion, I’ve gone from ‘spring-based horror - huh, that’s a concept I’ve literally never heard of or thought about before’ to being incredibly annoyed there aren’t more spring-based horror stories around that I can see. Like I get it, the general aesthetic of spring - and winter is the horror month, darkness, coldness, no food, death - but when you think about it, spring is great for horror. New things being born. The chaos of genetic mutation. Things that seemed dead coming back to life again. Things that were hibernating waking up and coming out to hunt again. Things growing, and being in fierce competition with each other for resources. Breeding animals suddenly going nuts, going all out, trying to keep their young alive - spring is a time for baby animals, but it’s also a time for parent animals to start hunting down baby animals to either feed themselves or their young with - and some of the things I’ve seen in nature documentaries...
Winter’s just finished - time to see what died during that time and what didn’t. The snow melting, revealing the corpses of things that died in the cold - and it’s wet. Letting them start to rot. The perfect breeding ground for disease. Storms.
Ideal.
