We suggest trying the Twenty-One series by jaxington. It’s an interesting dystopia AU with some unique world-building.

Magic/fantasy AUs usually have some world-building, because they need magic lore, like maybe  another taste of divine rush - Gallaghers have white magic and Milkoviches have black magic coven. Ian didn’t know what was wrong with his magic, but it liked to create random hexes out of anything. One day he accidentally curses Mickey Milkovich’s sister.

For characterization, of course look at the other fics from that author, Intro to Quantum Dating for instance - similar Mickey, very different circumstances.
