Psssssssssssssssssssh, I'm fine like--I actually find this just so funny tbh. I could not take her seriously when she said that because the whole situation was totally ridiculous. For real it was the stupidest thing let me tell you....
That new scary--but more importantly rated R--movie Annabelle had two preview showings tonight. One at around seven...? The other around ten. I started ripping tickets at 6:15. And I'd ripped several for that movie by let's say around 6:45. I thought some people who had tickets seemed a bit young. But I figured the person at box asked for ID. Since you know that's policy and basically an important part of the job in box. But apparently they didn't because a manager asked me to start checking IDs for rated R movies.
So I start doing it. And these three girl walk up, right? They can't even be sixteen. I take their tickets and it's for--you guessed it--Annabelle; so I ask to see their IDs. And they tell me that they're Mom's coming. And I say, "Alright then you guys can sit on the benches here in the lobby while you wait for her. Because anyone under seventeen can't see this movie unless someone over twenty-one is going with them."
They change their story immediately. "Well, our mom bought us these tickets. And she gave her permission so they said it was okay."
And I just smiled as sympathetically as I could and said, "No, I'm sorry; that's not how that works. If you want to watch that movie someone over twenty-one has to go with you. Or you can go back and exchange your ticket for another show."
I do this with a few more group of under-seventeens...
Until the mother of one the girls shows up. And asks me why she had to buy a ticket too. I explained the policy and apologize but tell her that those are the rules. One of the girls says, "Why didn't you say that earlier?! You didn't need to yell at us before!" I almost burst out laughing. I would never yell at work. Let alone yell over something as stupid as this.
Instead I apologized again and told them to enjoy the show. I thought that was the end of it. But then the movie ended.
And the mom came out to complain to my manager about how I wouldn't let some under-seventeens in but not others (aka the ones who were in there before I was told to check tickets). Thankfully, the manager she talked to was the very same one who told me to do so in the first place.
I didn't get to hear their full conversation though because another guest came up asking if we checked IDs for the movie. He asked because the kids were talking throughout the entire movie. I explained the situation to him and apologized and offered that he go to concession so he could talk to a manager about how to make up for it.
When they (the mother and the kids) finally finish speaking to the house manager. The lady looks over to me and says, "You're lucky they're defending you." She goes to storm out but then turns back to me to say, "You're stupid. And a bitch." She looked at my manager who was walking around the counter to talk to me. "And you're an asshole and a terrible manager." And walked out.
The whole situation was just so stupid and pointless. That I can't possibly take her seriously. So no don't worry about it I'm fine. It's just so hilarious though I can't even
