have been busy on holiday which means ive skipped the last few days, sorry!

this movie is about a mother and her troubled son. his father has recently died, and after the loss his mother is finding him more and more difficult to control. the son starts having strange hallucinations about a monster he calls the babadook, but these visions cease after a while- but are now plaguing his mother.

i thought this movie wasnt gonna be great because of the cliche ‘kid sees ghosts’ plot and low budget, but it really surpassed my expectations! it doesnt rely on much on screen scares to be frightening, and is a lot more psychological and mysterious than basic jumpscare stuff. the plot twist at the end was really interesting, and i liked how the roles were reversed in that, at the start, you instinctively trusted the adults point of view- but these expectations were switched later on. i did think the end scene was quite rushed and tacky, but had a good buildup

this movie was the ookiest spookiest shit to me when I was 10, and I'd watch it all the time. its one of the classic Tim Burton halloween movies, and the plot goes like this: victor is a young man who has been set up to marry Elizabeth. they are both keen to marry, but hardly know each other- this, and the pressure of their parents, makes victor very nervous, and he goes to the woods to learn his wedding vows. after doing this, he unknowingly marries a dead woman, binding a contract and going to live with her in the underworld.

this is just such a cool movie, and I can still totally appreciate it at my age. the songs are very effective in furthering the plot whilst also being Bops, the characters are super well designed and the setting is, as with every Burton movie, impeccable. the characters feel really fleshed out, and you get to know a lot about them during the film- which is something that can often be looked over in a kids movie. I can't think of any complaints. its just a cool film.

this is the most remake of the Stephen King classic, and the plot is as follows: carrie is a teenage girl who's a social outcast, raised by an incredibly religious and conservative mother. she is one day ruthlessly bullied by the girls in her year after getting her period in the school showers and thinking she’s wounded. after this day, she realises that she has telekinetic powers, and struggles to handle this new reality of escalating abuse from students and her mother whilst coming to terms with this gift.

I actually liked this movie? its got fairly low audience and critic reviews, but in the three times ive watched it ive really enjoyed. saying this, I don't think Chloe grace moretz was the best actress for the role of carrie, but I also didn't think she did a bad job. the scenes with her fighting back against her mother were some of the best in the movie, and were very well acted by Julianne Moore. the violence was cheesy and quite laughable at points, but if you don't take the movie too seriously in the first place they fit in well. its certainly not good, but its very watchable and works for a horror.
