It's been awhile hasn't it? Well, this blog has become one where I post for fun and when I have the spark to write. It is slowly coming back, and hopefully, this posts will become a bit more frequent. Remember to love yourself and your friends.
Your grandmother had warned you about the creature that lurked just beyond the treeline behind her cottage. A creature with a skull for a face, a harbinger of death as she would often describe it with piercing red eyes that could see straight through your soul. And if the creature had spotted you while you were wandering through its woods?Â
It was too late, you would end up in a newspaper article by the following morning.Â
You always thought that it was just stories that your grandmother would tell you to make sure that you would be back inside before night fell when you were little. Or that perhaps the monster in the woods wasnât really a monster, maybe it was just an animal that came around at the same time every single night. It wasnât impossible considering that the neighbors a few minutes up the road had a raccoon break into their garbage cans every night no matter what they did to keep it out.
Your mind raced with various thoughts as you pulled into the gravel driveway of your grandmaâs cottage that was now overgrown with weeds. Once your car was parked, you got out of it and closed the door, inhaling the woodsy smell that now surrounded you deeply as though it would soak into your skin and become a permanent part of you. Slowly, you had made your way to the front door of the cottage, the porch looking a little worse for wear but it was at least still standing strong, that was one less thing youâd have to worry about as you fumbled with your keys and unlocked the front door.Â
You dreaded this moment for over two months now, your grandma had passed and in her will she had left you a decent sum of money and the deed to the cottage as she knew how much you had loved it. Just as much, if not more, than what she had. With that had come a letter written in your grandmaâs elegant cursive handwriting explaining all the repairs that had been done to the house and what would need to be done. Once you were ready to come home of course - as she had written.Â
The inside of the house was exactly the way you had remembered it. Vintage floral curtains were drawn shut over the wooden framed windows, a matching floral couch and loveseat were centered in the living room with a more modern looking coffee table placed between them. The carpeting was surprisingly the same cream colored shade that you had remembered it, along with the familiar stain that was right by the couch that you had caused. An accident involving pasta sauce and you had tried to clean it up yourself when you were young, but your grandmother had simply laughed and helped you, which made you relax as she had explained that accidents happened and now the carpeting had a little more color to it.Â
The rest of the was unchanged as well, the dish sets and silverware your grandma had were still in the kitchen, and the master bedroom still had furniture in it. The only thing missing was a mattress for the bedframe which was fine, you had your own that was going to be delivered tomorrow. You were thankful that no one else in your family had attempted to break in and steal whatever they could from her place, you knew that they could be like that and it would be more of a hassle to try to get everything back than just replace it all.Â
With that in mind, you set to work cleaning the entire house from top to bottom.Â
 á âá â Ë â á â á    á âá â Ë â á â á    á âá â Ë â á â á    á âá â Ë â á â á    á âá â Ë â
Spring had given way to summer, and you were tending to the garden that your grandmother had left behind. The months had seemed to fly by and you had settled into your new routine within the first week of being here. Luckily, your job was work from home so all you really needed was a good internet connection which proved to be a bit more difficult out here but you got it working in no time.Â
Although, it had been awhile since you had kept some company. An empty feeling that welled up deep within you, and your friends? They had always had plans for something else. For some other group of friends. Or they had plans with their families. While you understood, it was starting to wear you down that somehow, they never had any time to spend with you anymore. Eventually, you had just stopped asking them altogether.Â
But that had meant taking desperate measures for some company, and with that, you were now sitting face to face with the creature your grandmother had warned you about. Was it stupid to have sat outside on your back patio and purposely leave the porch lights on? Absolutely. Did it stop you? Hell no. If anything, it was going to give you more answers and probably leave you with even more questions. The creature was exactly how she had described, it wore a bear skull for its face and its eyes glowed an eerie shade of red.Â
âWhat exactly are you?â You questioned, watching as the creature had tilted its head to the side as though it was considering giving you an actual answer.Â
âA guardian.â Came the reply, the voice it used sounded more like a thousand of them put together. Like the whisper of those that had died on this land well before you had arrived here. âWhat are you?âÂ
âA human.â You responded with a grin, your gaze dropping to the glass in front of you, watching as one of the droplets rolled down the side. Picking it up, you took a swig from it. Only to keep yourself distracted while you chatted with this guardian. âDo you have a name?âÂ
âI do.â The guardian responded as it then seemed to be studying you. âWhat would you give me in return?âÂ
âWell, Iâd like some company, itâs been awhile.â You responded. âAnd if you desire, you can sleep inside my home, just⌠Donât kill me in my sleep or something like that.âÂ
A low rumble sounded from the creature in front of you, and it took a moment before you had realized that it was actually chuckling at your remark. A slow grin spread across your features as you took another sip of your drink. Perhaps this would work out for both of you in the end.Â
âMyrcellus. Brother to Marcel the Guardian.â The creature finally stated.Â
âMyrcellusâŚâ You tried, a sort of warmness seemed to come from Myrcellus as he tilted his head to the side. âI like it. Well, I think youâll make some good company Myrcellus. Do you want something to drink? Do Guardians even have a need for food?â You questioned as you seemed more at ease once he had settled into the chair across from you and wasnât looming over you any longer.Â
âI have no need for mortal things.â Myrcellus responded. âI have a feeling you will make some decent company as well.âÂ
A laugh erupted from you at the statement. This was only the beginning of your friendship with said Guardian, and you could feel that there would be many more adventures with him.

Well! I'm back, and slowly trying to get into the swing of things. I plan on Thursday posts being posted earlier in the day rather than later. Anyways! Here's a monster matchup!
If you like my work and want to read more, check out my MASTERLIST!
Requests and Matchups are temporarily CLOSED!
The first time you had met him, it was actually online in a chat room that you were using to discuss different digital artist techniques, you had posted one of your most recent drawings and asked them what it was missing. Since you couldnât quite place your finger on it.
Jayce had been the first one to respond, suggesting adding some shading in different areas while the others had echoed the same thoughts, and after mulling it over for a while, you had taken the suggestions to mind and added shading.
Only then was the piece perfect enough to post to your account, which led to you getting a new follower, the same guy from the chat room you had been in.
You had been the one to start the conversation first, sending out a quick thank you to him to which he had responded back. Though the conversation had only seemed to go from there, it started slowly at first, one message every other day or so.
Then it turned into the two of you messaging each other constantly, whether it was while you were out at a party to tell him how it was or while he was at his job telling you about some annoying thing a coworker had said to him. Eventually he had started to share pictures with you in day to day life, and you found he had a pet cat!
Finally, you had gathered enough courage to ask him where he lived, surprisingly, he didnât live too far from you.
Wanting to meet the person behind the screen, you had suggested meeting up, which to your surprise he had agreed. You had texted one of your friends to come along with you, and since he worked at a museum, a very public place, you had full confidence going out to meet him.
What you werenât expecting was a 7 foot tall drider with snow white hair and red eyes to be standing in front of where you were supposed to meet the friend you had made online. You stood there shocked for a moment or two before walking up to him and introducing yourself.
He had smiled at you, and introduced himself as Jayce, or Jay for short, and then he very happily showed you and your friend around the museum, explaining all of the different exhibits and even giving you a bit of a backstage tour since he had clearance.
The stone pathway that led up to the museum was familiar to you now, as was the drider who was just starting an afternoon tour that consisted of fourth graders who really could care less about what he had to say and cared more about getting to the dinosaur exhibit. You leaned against the check in desk, the demon behind the counter had grown familiar with you and would let you come and go as you please since you were mainly here for him anyway.Â
His gaze had landed on you, and a sweet smile had spread across his features as he had led the kids over to the interactive dinosaur dig site that they had set up recently since there had been an increase in schools wanting to take field trips there. The teacher had looked mildly annoyed that she had to pay attention to the kids now but Jayce strode over to you like he could have cared less.Â
âI thought you were busy today?â He asked once he had reached you, he leaned down, pulling you into a hug that had made you always feel secure with him. âIf I wouldâve known you were coming, I wouldâve scheduled the field trip for later in the dayâŚâ He huffed quietly as he pulled away.Â
You merely beamed up at him in response. âWell, I thought Iâd come and surprise you today, but I see that youâre busy, I could always comeâŚ-â You were cut off as Jayce had pulled you closer to him and leaned down to press a brief kiss to your lips.Â
âNonsense, in fact, since youâre here, why donât you help me give the tour?â He suggested as he led you over to where the fourth graders were currently having the time of their lives.Â
âSure, and then we can go out for lunch!â You laughed as he rolled his eyes playfully at you. âThereâs a new restaurant that opened up that we could try.âÂ
Back with another monster matchup! This one featuring a short Minotaur and his tall girlfriend! All he wants to do is make some breakfast! *Disclaimer: None of the pics are mine, all credit goes to the original artists!

-Requests are OPEN!Â
You couldnât help but laugh quietly at how your boyfriend was pouting up at you, his tail swishing from side to side as a huff came from him. âWhat? Canât reach it?â You teased the smaller minotaur gently, another huff came from him as he shook his head. âNeed me to get it for you?â You asked with another giggle as your boyfriend merely grumbled in response to the question.Â
âYes please.â He finally sighed after a moment, you reached down and gently ruffled the curly fur on top of his head, he rolled his eyes playfully and shuffled off to the side, waiting for you to grab the pancake mix from the top shelf.Â
You reached up and grabbed the pancake mix from the shelf, you placed it down on the counter for him and pressed a kiss to the top of his head. âThere you go.â You hummed as you stepped back as Aldran took the mix and immediately began to work on making breakfast for the two of you. With a smile, you wrapped your arms around his shoulders and then rested your chin on top of his head.Â
He chuckled softly as he flipped one of the pancakes over, tilting his head back he pressed a kiss to your cheek. âThank youâŚâ He cooed softly as he then focused back on making breakfast with a hum.Â
âYou donât need to thank me for getting stuff off of the shelf for you.â You responded as you gave him a gentle squeeze. He huffed softly in response and then turned to face you after he had plated the pancakes.Â
âYes I do, without you I donât know how Iâd make breakfast in the morning since the mix is always up on the top shelf!â He protested, reached up to poke your nose in response, something he always did when he was trying to prove a point. âI need someone tall to stuff down for me, and well, you are tall! Which I love, just like I love you!â He grumbled as he crossed his arms, looking about as menacing as a kitten right now.Â
You could only shake your head in response as he rattled on about how great you were as he finished making breakfast, and by the end of it, you had sneaked the mix back up on the top shelf. It gave you something to look forward to in the morning, little did you know that Aldran knew exactly what you were doing and he was more than happy to indulge in it every morning.
Another request! This one I struggled with a little bit at first, I loved the idea but had so many different ways I wanted to take it, it was hard to settle on one, I may revisit something like this again in the future! *Disclaimer: None of the pics are mine, all credit goes to original artists!

Quintyn was the librarian though he didnât look like one, standing at about 6â1, he was intimidating to say the least. His black hair was usually tied back into a ponytail or a bun, which he pulled off effortlessly.
Being an orc, many of the preschoolers had questions for him, what was his life like, did his tusks bother him, and so on. He took the questions and answered them to the best of his abilities with a smile.
You had met him the first day you had started, you were unsure of where to go and he had asked if you needed assistance, to which you had replied yes and were grateful for.Â
Though it was painfully obvious many of the single moms and dads had developed a crush on the easy-going librarian, and he was oblivious to many of their advances.Â
It took nearly half a year for you to work up the courage to say yes when he kept asking you to go out on dates, with the encouragement of some of the other teachers at a get-together. They had seen how the two of you interacted and it was obvious that the librarian was into you.
Though it didnât take you nearly as long to say yes when he proposed to you a year later.
âQuintyn?â You questioned as you made your way towards the library, hearing laughter coming from several of the students as they raced ahead of you. The orc sitting behind his desk as a line was formed to check out several books, you smiled slightly at seeing some of the titles considering they had been your favorite growing up. Though when he heard you calling for him, he looked up and offered a smile, motioning for you to sit beside him at the desk. Not needing to be asked a second time, you made your way over and took the spot beside him, helping him check the books out for the kids.Â
âYou have parent-teacher meetings tonight right?â He asked as he looked over at you, you nodded in response, reaching out he brushed a few strands of your brunette hair away from your features. âIâll wait for you, that way we can go home together.â He responded softly, the kids giggling quietly at how âgrossâ the two of you were acting. Which only caused him to laugh, telling the kids that one day theyâll be acting the same way when they find someone to love.Â
âI donât know how itâs going to go, Angieâs mom has not been thrilled that she has been flunking most of the assignments even with help. Iâve emailed her, called and even spoken to Angie as well to see what kind of help she needs so we can have her pass. She says that she just doesnât want to do the assignments.â You sighed softly, opting to have your class spend the rest of study hall in the library reading.Â
By the time that the end of the day had rolled around, you were preparing for the last of your parent-teacher meetings, you had saved Angie for last. When her mom had walked in with her, you took a breath as the tiefling took a seat across from you, an ear piece attached to her ear as she idly picked at her nails as though she had somewhere better to be than here.Â
âI see that Angie had done incredibly well at the beginning of the year, she was acing everything and doing fantastic for someone in preschoolâŚâ You started once her mom had given you her attention. âBut towards the middle here, she had started to get bored and stopped doing her assignments. I have tried everything, I spoke to Angie directly and she had stated that she just didnât want to do them.â You were getting the sense that the reason Angie didnât want to do the assignments was due to the fact that her mom was barely paying attention to what you were saying.Â
âThen do them for her. No daughter of mine will be caught flunking preschool. Besides, how hard can it be to take a few minutes out of your day to do them? Thereâs what, maybe two assignments tops?â Her mom questioned as her gaze narrowed at you. âI donât have time to sit and be lectured by someone beneath me. I have more important business matters to attend to.âÂ
âMiss, I cannot do her assignments for her, that is against my policy and wouldnât be teaching her anythingâŚâ You were cut off before you could finish the statement.Â
âThen you figure it out or I will be contacting the principal to get you fired and have a replacement that would be willing to make exceptions for some students.â She growled as she stood, taking Angieâs hand. âWe are done here, you have a week to make sure my darling passes or itâs your job.â She warned as she stormed out of the class with Angie.Â
You sat there for a few moments, gathering your thoughts and feeling more frustrated than before as you collected your things. Quintyn had managed to have perfect timing as he caught you stuffing your laptop into its bag rather haphazardly. âIt didnât go as planned?â He asked, to which you shook your head as you cleared your throat, fighting back tears that threatened to spill.Â
âNo, she basically threatened to go to the principal if I donât fix things myself or do Angieâs work for her, which I cannot do. You know that.â You ranted for a moment as he came over and wrapped his muscular arms around you. âItâs unfair, my job is to help them⌠Why⌠Parents are so difficult!â You finished as you hugged onto him tightly, he pressed a kiss to the top of your head and held you for a few moments longer.Â
âI know, I just had to have a young boyâs mom replace a book that he had colored in and she was not happy about that.â He murmured softly, scooping you up in one arm and grabbing your stuff with the other. âLetâs go home okay? Iâll cook dinner tonight.âÂ
âWill you make me my favorite?â You asked as you glanced up at him with hopefulness, he could only laugh at your big brown doe eyes, practically pleading for him to make the dish.Â
âOf course, what kind of husband would I be if I didnât make my wife her favorite when she was feeling upset?â He questioned as he carried you out to your shared car, setting you in the passenger side as you giggled softly, ready for him to take you home.

Itâs been awhile since I wrote a full fledged story! I stopped myself at nearly 2k words. But! This one features a Manticore working at an animal shelter who adores cats! Meanwhile the reader loves dogs! *Disclaimer: None of the pictures are mine, all credit goes to original artists!Â

-Requests and Matchups are CLOSED TEMPORARILY!Â
The sound of dogs barking made a smile spread across your features as you pulled open the doors to the shelter. Sighing in content, you began to make your way down the steps to the dog ward where some of your favorite residents were. Greeting several of the other workers, you grabbed a leash and headed straight towards your favorite shelter dog, an older mixed breed that only had one eye and several scars along his body with soft brown fur. The dog, Buster, immediately perked up as he had seen you approaching, his tail thumped against the bars of his cage and he woofed quietly at you.Â
âI know, itâs been a bit huh?â You said as you opened the cage doors and immediately kneeled down to pet Buster as he leaned his whole weight onto your legs, once you had kneeled down however, he crawled into your lap practically demanding belly rubs. Which you were more than happy to provide as he attempted to lick your hands while he was laying on his back, it only made you laugh at the expression he had while you gave him affection.Â
âYou wanna go for a walk?â You questioned, immediately Buster scrambled to his feet and jumped up on his back legs excitedly with a louder bark that caused several of the others to bark in unison, all the workers collectively working on trying to get them to quiet down.Â
âBuster, inside voice.â You commanded, the dog quieting his barks to something much more manageable. You thanked him and then gave him a treat before clipping the leash onto his collar, leading him outside of the cage and shutting the door behind you. âReady to go?âÂ
He wagged his tail and woofed in response, giving what you assumed was a yes. Though as you made your way towards the steps, you huffed softly as a figure was coming down them. âLuciene, what are you doing down here?â You asked the manticore as he was walking by you.Â
âHeading to the isolation award. New cats are here.â He responded with a huff as he spared you a glance. âYou know that we get new ones every week.â He stated matter-of-factly as he headed through the doorway.Â
The pair of you had been in a weird limbo ever since he had started working here, you had tried to introduce him to several of the dogs, including Buster but he had told you that he preferred cats to dogs and would rather stay away from dogs. In a way, you had taken offense since Buster was your favorite, and everyone had loved him. You had decidedly ignored Luciene whenever he was around, and the same had gone for him. Only the staff had tried to get you two to talk on more than one occasion and it had never worked out the way that you had hoped, you never held a fondness for cats like what Luciene did, it was hard to talk when he talked about the shelter cats, though you supposed you only talked about the dogs.Â
Letting your thoughts wander, you let Buster lead the way up the steps and towards the front door where he had pushed it open with his front paws. You followed him out, glancing around before deciding to take a path different from the usual route, Buster glanced back at you with a questioning look but walked right beside you and kept pace. He paused occasionally to sniff at the ground, which you let him, before continuing on your way.Â
That is, until you heard soft cries coming from a bunch of bushes off of the dirt path you and Buster had turned onto. You paused briefly, glancing around before the cries grew in volume. Desperate. Whatever it was, it was desperate. It only took a few moments for you to realize that it was a cat, or cats, crying. Busterâs ears had perked up and he had immediately begun to drag you towards the source of the cries.Â
Once you were sure you were near wherever the cats were, Buster had broken free of your grasp with a bark and took off into some bushes. You blinked at the leash that was slowly disappearing into the bush, it took a moment for it to sink in before you realized that Buster had broken free. âBuster!â You called out as you chased after him in the bushes.Â
Another bark came from Buster as he had popped his head out of a thorny bush, you had seen a flash of white and black before he had disappeared into the bush again. The cries died down before picking back up again, much quieter this time as Buster had carefully climbed out of the bushes with a kitten in his mouth. You kneeled down, taking the small creature from the dog and holding onto it as he went back into the same bush.Â
After several back and forth trips, you had four kittens in your arms while the mother cat was being carried by Buster, she was wounded and needed immediate medical attention. Without a second thought, you had grabbed Busterâs leash and began to speed walk back to the shelter with the kittens bundled up in your arms while he carried the others. Upon your arrival, the front desk worker gasped once she had seen the mom cat and had rushed off to grab one of the vets on duty. Talk began to spread and soon enough the manticore was in front of you, eyeing up the kittens with a fondness before glancing down at you with a slight question to his gaze.
âIâm surprised you didnât call someone else to get them.â He huffed as you began to hand him the kittens, he carefully placed them on his back and wrapped his wings around them to keep them steady so they wouldnât fall off.Â
âI wouldnât leave any animal out there to just⌠suffer.â You responded as you crossed your arms, a frown tugging at the corner of your lips.Â
The manticore seemed to be studying you, and for the first time you had really taken in his features, he was sleek in appearance, his fur a deep grey with tiger stripes while his wings resembled that of a bat. His tail was more like a scorpionâs than anything else, while his human features were sharp, his eyes were dark and despite the slight frown tugging at his lips, you found him attractive overall. Feeling your features start to heat up in response at the realization, you glanced away and cleared your throat.Â
âEven if they are a cat, I wouldnât leave them alone, everyone deserves a fighting chance.â You stated as you turned to talk to the vet tech that had come up to ask some questions and give some feedback on what the vet had said.Â
âI donât think Buster is as bad as the others.â Luciene commented as he then made his way into the cat ward to introduce the kittens to the others, a soft smile gracing your features at the admission. After getting everything squared away and Buster back into his cage for the night, you had made your way back home.Â
What you didnât expect was to wake to a text the following morning, you shifted and squinted at your phone screen since the light was nearly blinding this early in the morning. A grumble came past your lips as you read over it before you smiled.Â
âThanks for saving the kittens and the mom cat, the vet found she had broken both her front and back legs. They think she may have mis-landed when she jumped off of something and dragged herself back to the kittens⌠Perhaps you could take me on one of your walks with Buster? -LucieneâÂ
You saved the number into your phone and eagerly responded with a yes that he could come on the next walk with you and Buster. With a pep in your step you tossed some clothes on and got ready to head out, sending a text to Luciene to make sure he was there that morning as you slipped on your shoes and headed outside. With the shelter only being a ten minute walk from your house, you had simply opted to walk instead of drive there.Â
Surprise spread through you as Luciene was waiting outside the door with Buster, the dog eagerly bouncing around and trying to play with the manticore, which only seemed to confuse him as a quiet rumble left him. Though he was unsure, he at least attempted to ruffle the dogâs fur and give him some attention, it was clear he didnât have much experience with dogs, a laugh erupted from you as he grimaced when Buster jumped up to lick his face.Â
His gaze snapped towards yours and a smile worked its way onto his features. âIâm glad you're here, I donât know how much longer I couldâve stood⌠Heâs so⌠energeticâŚâ He explained awkwardly as he passed you the leash.Â
âI know, heâs a good dog though, I promise.â You reassured as you took the leash from him and motioned for him to follow. âWeâll go our usual way, itâll be good for a short walk to start you out with, you can join us this evening for the second walk of the day. That one usually wears him out.â You explained as Luciene hummed in response.Â
âIâve never really been around dogsâŚâ He admitted as he followed along beside you. âWhen I was young, the neighbors had a nasty dog and⌠Because I was well⌠A glorified cat, he saw me as nothing more than a chew toy, so he would chase me all over.â He explained further. âI donât trust them but⌠If it means so much to you⌠Iâm at least willing to try.â He murmured sheepishly as a flush came over his face.Â
âI had a cat attack me when I was young, I didnât know how to read the body language well.. It didnât end well for me, I ended up with some stitches but⌠I heard the kittens crying and I didnât want to leave them there alone.â You explained as the pair of you walked.Â
By the end of it, Luciene had ended up making you laugh and you had gotten to know each other a lot better than what you thought was possible at the start. He paused outside the shelter doors as you had moved towards them. âI unfortunately have to go to my job, I canât stay any longerâŚâ He said as he held the door open for you.Â
âThatâs okay, perhaps next time we meet it could be at a restaurant? Make it a date?â You decided to try, at least if he rejected you, you could remain friends with him without pursuing something more.Â
The manticore seemed stunned for a moment, unable to say anything before he cleared his throat and nodded. âA date sounds lovely, Iâll text you after work and weâll discuss the details then?âÂ
You agreed, both of you leaving with smiles on your faces, the workers asking you what was up but you had brushed it off as simply having a good morning. At least now you didnât have to dread passing the cat ward every time you went into the shelter, Luciene gave you something to look forward to.Â
Yikes, I said I was gonna get back into the swing of things but here I am a month later completing old requests! Finally here is the merfolk fic that I was talking about that features a lamprey based merman! As always! Requests are OPEN! Matchups are CLOSED temporarily!  If you like my work and want to read more, check out my masterlist!Â
The sound of footsteps echoed down the hallway, alerting the newest specimen that someone was coming to check on them. He hated this part, heâd get poked and prodded and have stuff rubbed on him that burned his scales. A low growl came from him as he curled up underneath the small cave that was provided to him in what was considered his new home. A tank just barely big enough for him to turn around in while he was being experimented on.Â
He hated every second of this. He was supposed to be something that was feared among his own kind due to the nature he held. He was wasting away here and he wanted to get out, he wanted his freedom back but there was nothing he could do with how much they were weakening him. However, he perked up slightly once he heard your voice, you were the only person in this lab that actually made his day considering you would sit by his tank and talk about everything and anything with him even if he couldnât respond.Â
âItâs really not that complicated Marlene.â You spoke to the other girl who usually accompanied you on your nightly walks, but she often left you alone to go check on the other experiments that they had in different rooms. âWe justâŚâ The conversation that you were sharing with Marlene tapered off until he could no longer hear your sweet voice. He knew that he was always the last stop of the night for you because you enjoyed his presence just as much as he enjoyed yours.Â
He laid outside of his cave, waiting for you to come by, except, you never did. A frown covered his features as he slipped back into his cave and let his eyes slide shut as he drifted off into a light sleep. Small bubbles coming from him as he snored lightly.Â
He was jolted awake however as the water from his tank began to slosh around, a low hiss coming from him as he curled up tighter in his cave. What he was not expecting however, was to see you pop up in his field of vision. He blinked at you slowly, a curious look coming across his features as he watched you, you merely offered him a sheepish smile as the sloshing started again.Â
âJust trust me. I promise everything will be okay Lance.â You reassured him as he merely nodded in response.Â
There were a few more minutes of the water sloshing around before you wheeled out what looked like a giant fish tank, his gills flared up again and he bared his fangs at you, which in a way was intimidating because he had so many rows of them. âIâm gonna get you out.â You stated as you climbed up to his tank and held your arms out for him. The lamprey merman looked up at you, hesitation coming across his features as he seemed to be thinking about it before he finally swam up to the waterâs surface to meet you there. He reached out towards you and you helped him out of the tank and carefully lowered him into the giant fishbowl looking one. He had noted that it had wheels, so you were taking him elsewhere? He supposed that it wasnât such a bad thing considering you were going to be there, or at least he hoped.Â
He was lured into security by the sound of you pulling this giant fish bowl along, his dark eyes never leaving your form for a second, though when you made a slow turn around a corner, his gills flared at Marlene who was standing watch with a door open.Â
âThink they saw us?â She asked, though you merely shook your head in response, a quiet huff coming from you at the effort you needed to pull this thing along.Â
âNo, I spent months studying this place and how it worked, thereâs no way that the machines would be up and running at this point.â You explained as you tugged the fishbowl out of the door, Marlene gave you a sort of sympathetic smile.Â
âIâm going to miss you ya know? I know youâre not coming back after this, and I found another job so⌠If you find me, promise youâll stop and say hi okay?â She asked softly before pulling you into a brief hug right as the lights began to turn back on one by one. âNow go!âÂ
There was an undertone of sadness to your expression despite the determination that covered most of your features. You pulled the fish bowl along, there was a lot more to it than just this, what it was Lance wasnât sure considering you didnât seem to be stopping. He mulled it over in his mind before he curled up on the bottom of the tank, wrapping his large eel-like tail around himself as he drifted off to sleep, if he imagined it hard enough the sloshing water was like the sound of the ocean waves.Â
It had felt like days had gone by the next time Lance had stirred. He blinked awake and stretched, only to realize that you had managed to lug him all the way to the bay. The sound of waves crashing against the sand stirred a familiar longing within him and he couldnât help but haul himself up to the surface of the water in his tank. A quiet huff came from him as he lifted himself over the top of it, fueled mainly by the need to be back in the ocean. He yelped as he landed on the sand rather roughly before he shook it off and lifted himself up on shaky arms as you had rushed over to his side, he gave a warning growl but you merely smiled in response and carefully picked him up.Â
Once the cold water had washed over him, he hissed slightly. After being trapped as an experiment for months he wasnât quite ready for the coldness just yet, but it was home. He glanced back at you, almost unsure before you gave a faint smile in response. âMarlene helped the others escape too, she had her own agenda.â You explained as he merely responded with a huff.Â
Well, one thing could be said for certain was that you really did care about others, unlike most humans. Lance took one look at the rolling waves and took a breath, he waited for the next wave before pushing himself back into the watery depths. Leaving you with nothing more than a single splash of water from his tail. You smiled faintly, there was a faint feeling of emptiness in your chest but you knew that it would go away over time. You would miss sitting and talking to him, not that he ever did much, you always did all of the talking.Â
What you werenât expecting months later, was to find the same merman relaxing on the sandy shore. The scientists had been exposed to the public and were immediately shut down because of their unethical treatment of living beings. You smiled faintly as you walked over to the sunbathing merman, the same warning growl you had received that night coming from him.Â
âI didnât quite expect to see you again.â You commented as you sat down by him, the merman turning to look at you, he blinked slowly before a smile came onto his features, revealing the many rows of teeth he had.Â
âItâs good to see you again, friend.â You said before delving into what you had been doing over the last couple of months, what you didnât know was that he had missed you just as much.

âYouâre in love with them.â His friend spoke from across the table, a small smile crossing his features as he watched. His friend watched the orc tense intently, a chuckle leaving the werewolf as he had pointed out the obvious.Â
âShut up.â Illus spoke softly with a quiet huff as he watched you make your way back over to the table where all of your friends were sitting. It was routine at this point, he and his friend would go to the cafe the same day you would meet up with your friends. He was captivated by you, the way you laughed and smiled. It had even become routine for you to offer them a small wave when you saw them enter the cafe, you didnât even know their names and yet you were acting as though you were friends with them.Â
âWhy donât you go talk to them?â Adrien, the werewolf, prodded a little more as he took a sip of the pumpkin spice coffee that he had ordered. Illus personally could not stand the flavor, he much preferred his coffee with just a splash of cream and sugar in it.Â
Illus shook his head in response to the question, completely avoiding it as his gaze drifted to the multicolored leaves outside. Autumn was beginning to set in and it was probably the orcâs favorite time of year, after all he had decided to volunteer at his local farm to help run the hay rides that people of any age seemed to enjoy. âDonât be stupid, theyâre far out of my league.â He muttered almost bitterly, you were like an ethereal being to him, you could do no wrong.Â
âYouâll never know until you try!â Adrien huffed at him from across the table. âYou know what? Iâm going to do something about this.â He stated as he set down his coffee and stood, walking over to the table where you were sitting. Illus couldnât quite hear the conversation that was going on, but mere moments later he heard your laughter and Adrien chuckling.Â
âCome over here Illus!â The werewolf called, he didnât want to outright refuse his friend considering it would appear rude, but he was nervous. Debating it for a brief moment, the orc finally stood, grabbing his friend's coffee before making his way over to the table and taking a seat at it.Â
âHi!â You exclaimed happily, introducing yourself before continuing. âIâm glad you two came over here! We see you all the time here when we come out for coffee and wanted to get to know you, but none of us could work up the courage to actually ask you guys to come sit with us.â You explained with a faint flush to your features as though you were embarrassed about the whole thing.Â
âItâs alright, we saw you guys too and couldnât figure out how to introduce ourselves. My name is Adrien and this is Illus.â The werewolf motioned to the orc with a grin. âHeâs volunteering to run the hay rides at the pumpkin patch this year.âÂ
You practically lit up at the mention of that and smiled widely at the orc. âReally? We were actually planning on going there next weekend as a group!â You explained excitedly. âSo weâll see you there? Maybe you could show us the best place to find the biggest pumpkins.âÂ
âMaybe, if I learn where they keep all the good ones by then.â Illus chuckled quietly, though as excited as what you had sounded for the pumpkin patch, he didnât want to get his hopes up. The rest of the get together had gone smoothly and at the end of it, you had swapped numbers and promised him that you would be there next weekend at the pumpkin patch.Â
It was rainy that day, the day you had told him that you would be there at the pumpkin patch, it was getting late, almost closing time and not many people had been there that day. He tried to mask his disappointment, that is, until he caught sight of a bright yellow raincoat as someone had rushed up to the wagon portion of the hayride. He wasnât expecting you to look up at him with a wide smile as he felt his heart skip a beat at that.Â
âI told you Iâd come!â You chimed in a cheerful voice that caused the orc to smile down at you. âI kept my promise! I hope you kept yours with the pumpkins!âÂ
He did in fact, since there was no one else around he had taken the time to get out of the tractor and show you exactly where he had seen some huge pumpkins in the field earlier, and had even offered to carry it back to your car. It wasnât long after the pumpkin patch that you had been the first to ask him out on a date, deciding to take a risk. You were very thrilled when he responded with a yes. You knew that it could only get better from there, and it did as you two had quickly become partners not long after that.
All because you had just happened to be in the coffee shop on the same days, you were thankful to have Illus in your life just as he was thankful to have you in his.
