Lexi blinked her eyes open, her body sore and her head groggy. She let out a low groan as she straightened herself in the hospital bed. Jensen stood and was at her side faster than she blinked her eyes.
âHey, Punk.â He was quick to her side.
âThe baby?â She all but croaked with her dry throat.
âThe baby is in the NICU. Jared is talking to the doctors.â He handed her a cup of water.Â
âHeâs still-â
âYeah. Jared will explain in a bit. But, the little guy is a hardass and not giving up.â Jensen pushed her hair from her face, tears clear in her eyes. âHow are you? You feeling okay?â
âTired but okay. â She nodded. âHow long has Jared been gone?â
âBout an hour.â He held his little sisterâs hand. âDoctor said he needed to talk to him, sign some papers.â
âPapers for what? For the baby?â She sat up semi frantic.
âCalm down!â Jensen squeezed her hand in comfort. âItâs okay.â
The door opened and Jared walked in. Lexi sat up and was preparing for bad news. She squeezed Jensenâs hand even tighter than sheâd already had.Â
âHowâs-â Lexi began but Jared was quick to start talking.
âHey! The babyâs okay.â He answered before she could get the question out. Her shoulders instantly relaxed, tears formed in a single blink and fell down her face. âHow long have you been awake? How are you feeling?â He pressed a kiss to her head. âThe doctor said the meds would make you sleep for a while.âÂ
âWhatâs going on with the baby?âÂ
âHe is doing good.â Jared sat next to her. âHe is still in the NICU and on oxygen. He has trouble breathing. Doctor has him on steroids to help his lungs finish developing.â Jared pulled out his phone and showed her a picture of the small baby with several tubes attached to his tiny body. âHe is almost eighteen inches long and four and a half pounds.â
âHe looks so much like you!â She cried with joy. âLook at him!â
âI know, he is so beautiful.â Jared pulled her into him. â
âIs it just his lungs?â She looked up at Jared.
âNo.â Jared gave a quick glance at Jensen then back to Lexi.
âWhat is it?â Lexi looked at both. âHow bad is it?â
âHe is anemic and jaundiced.â Jared began. âHe- he had a seizure- â Jared saw Lexi ready to panic. âHe is okay! It wasnât too severe and the doctors are monitoring him. So far he has good brain waves and is stable.â
âI want to see him.â Lexi pushed the sheets off of herself.
âWhoa, whoa!â Jensen stood walking over to her bed.
âBaby, you need to have the doctor come in and check you first. Your blood pressure is just getting to a safe level. You have been through labor and delivery. You lost a lot of blood. You had a transfusion. You have huge amounts of meds in your system.â Jared counted off the reason for her to stay in bed.Â
âMy baby needs me.â
âJust let the doctor check you out first.â Jensen stood. âIâll get her now.â He walked out the room.
Lexi looked back at Jared. âWait, I had a blood transfusion?â
âYes you did.â The doctor walked in, slipping her gloves on. âYou have us quite the scare. These two have been going back and forth taking turns between you and the little one.â Lexi looked between Jensen and Jared. âBy the way, you have a beautiful baby boy. Very strong. And stubborn.â She smiled at Lexi. âWhy donât you two go get some coffee while I check under her hood.â They all gave a chuckle.
The doctor was thorough with her check up and went over every aspect of her issues explaining how Lexi was nearly rushed to the O.R. for an emergency hysterectomy bc of bleeding. Between that, blood loss and high blood pressure, It was important to keep a close eye on her. âYouâre doing well but still want to keep you for a day or two more.â
âCan I see him?â
âOf course!â The doctor answered. âWe will wait another hour or so just to make sure you are okay to move around a little beforehand. Iâll go talk to the NICU.â
âIâll call Gen and Danneel and give them an update.â Jensen followed the doctor out.
âYou did so great, baby girl.â Jared sat next to Lexi pressing a kiss to her forehead. âYou were so strong and determined.â
âAt one point I wanted to punch Gen for making natural labor sound like a good idea.â She chuckled.
Jared let out a laugh. âYou almost did if Dee wouldnât have been between you two!â
âHowâs Danneelâs hand by the way?â
âUh, sore.â He chuckled and Lexi laid her head on his chest. âYou were so amazing. You brought our baby boy into this world.â
âI can not believe I pushed a person out of my body.â Lexi let out a yawn.Â
âThe nurses in the NICU say that he is a little fighter. He was trying to cry but couldnât because his lungs are still a little under developed.Â
The door creaked open and a young nurse walked in with a wheelchair. âI hear you finally get to go see your munchkin.â She smiled at Lexi and Jared. âI hear he has the nurses quite smitten in the NICU.â
âJust like his daddy.â Lexi smiled at Jared.
Slowly and carefully Lexi transitioned to the wheelchair with shaking hands. She knew it would take her a while before she would be at full strength again. Jared followed behind as the nire wheeled Lexi into the NICU. The three of them went through the process of disinfecting and putting on gowns.Â
The nurse set the wheelchair right in front of the clear incubator. Lexi instantly had tears in her eyes as she looked down at the sleeping baby. âHeâs so small.â She spoke with a broken voice looking at the wires and tubes attached to him.Â
âHe is stronger than he looks.â A different nurse walked up to them. âIâm Shelly, Head nurse here.â SHe extended her hand and gave a gentle shake.â How are you Mrs. Padalecki?â
âIâm okay. What about-â
âHe is doing well.â Shelly smiled, pulling up a chair. âHe is on oxygen till his lungs are stronger. The feeding tube is there till he can learn to swallow properly. The rest of the leads are just to monitor his vitals.â
âHow long will he need all of this?âÂ
âHe will be here for a few weeks to a few months. It depends on how long it takes his body to catch up to being born so early. We donât take chances here so we are being cautious and aggressive.â
âSo weâll be going home without him.â Lexi looked at Jared with fearful eyes.
âI talked with your husband earlier, preparing him for the reality that you will be going home without your baby. It will be difficult.â
Lexi nodded. âHow often will we be able to see him?â
âYouâll be able to come daily. We give updates every few hours and when you go home in the evenings we have a number you can call to check in on baby.â
âHe is in good hands, Lex.â Jared rubbed her arms. âThis is the best NICU in the state.
âHe is stable and should improve daily from here on out.â Shelly explained. âHe is a strong one. He even tries to pull the leads off.â She chuckled. âYour biggest concern right now is naming this little guy.â
âI already know his name.â Lexi said, looking at the baby boy through the incubator.Â
âYou do?â Jared asked, surprised.
âTristan Ross.â Lexi said with confidence.Â
âTristan Ross Padalecki.â Jared smiled. âI love it.âÂ

Chapter 3
A couple hours later, Jensen quietly walked down the hallway to check on Harper. He figured she had finished unpacking and was just chilling out in her room for the last hour. So now he could see how she was.
When he turned and looked in the doorway, however, what he saw was unexpected.
Harper was sound asleep on the bed and her bags were still unpacked on the ground next to the bed.
Jensen walked into the room and sat down on the bed. He laid a hand on Harper's shoulder and gently shook it, "Harper? Wake up honey."
Harper jolted awake, sitting up with a large intake of breath. She pushed back from her spot to get as far away as possible. Jensen also jumped, but from Harper's reaction to him.
Jensen held his hands up, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I didn't think I would scare you doing that."
Harper sat back, her hand on her chest, panting quickly and shaking where she was.
Jensen stood up and took a step away from her bed, "I'll just stay over here," he cleared his throat, "Anyway, um, Danneel just got back. I know she'd be happy to see you. Do you want to come and say hello?"
Harper blinked a few times and took a deep breath, nodding her head slightly to Jensen.
He held out his hand for Harper to take, but Harper ignored him. She stood up from her bed and walked past him into the hallway.
Jensen dropped his hand and sighed, "Alrighty then," and followed Harper.
Harper walked down the hallway, past the TV room and dining area, and down the stairs. She looked around in the kitchen and the living room, but Danneel was nowhere in sight.
She turned around, getting ready to ask Jensen where Danneel was when Harper was suddenly being hugged from behind.
"Oh, Harper! Look how big you've gotten!" exclaimed Danneel.
Harper wiggled and fought until she was out of Danneel's grip. She started back pedaling until she hit the couch and fell backwards over the back. She laid there upside down, panting in panic while Jensen and Danneel ran over to her.
Danneel bent down to her eye level, "Oh no, are you okay? I didn't mean to scare you that badly I just wanted to surprise you. You're not hurt, are you?"
Harper shook her head gently, then looked up to her father.
Jensen pulled Danneel to her feet and spoke, "She's really jumpy. I probably should've mentioned that."
"Oh, I'm sorry, Harper," Danneel sad hugging Jensen, "It's just been so long since I've seen you. It's been, what, 10 years?"
Harper nodded as she kicked her legs over her head. Unfortunately, she didn't catch herself and she fell on the floor.
Jensen bent down, "You okay?"
Harper nodded again and slowly sat up, grunting from the pain in her back. Once she sat up she stretched and used the couch to stand up.
Jensen stood up to try and help her, but thought against it in the last second.
Harper turned to Danneel and gave a forceful smile, "Hey Dee."
Danneel gasped, "You remember my nickname?"
Harper looked confused, "Considering I was 5 and couldn't pronounce your name, I'd hope I remembered your nickname."
Danneel walked up to Harper, "Well, if you're up for it I thought I could make dinner tonight. Anything you want, name it and it's yours."
Harper looked down to the ground and shrugged. She peaked up at Jensen, who nodded to Danneel.
Harper sighed and quietly spoke, "I'm not really hungry."
Danneel crossed her arms, "I guess you and Jensen had a big lunch then, huh?"
Jensen shook his head, "She didn't eat lunch."
Danneel and Jensen both looked at Harper and Danneel asked, "Did you eat anything today?"
Harper twisted her arm and stared at the ground before whispering, "I had a candy bar on the flight."
Jensen looked shocked, "That's it? Harper, that's not enough."
Danneel spoke up, "He's right. You need actual food."
Harper started to feel attacked and took a step back. Her nails were digging into her arm and her teeth into her lower lip.
Jensen noticed her backing off and took a step forward, "Hey, Harper. Um, why don't you finish unpacking? Danneel and I will make dinner and if you're up for it later we'll save plenty for you. Okay?"
Harper slowly nodded her head. She walked past Jensen and Danneel, keeping her head towards the ground.
When Danneel noticed she was out of hearing range, she spoke up, "Why did you do that? She needs to eat, Jensen."
Jensen nodded, "I know. But did you see her? She's scared, Dee. She's in a new place with new people. She's trying to adjust but we can't make her do that within a few hours of being here."
Danneel sighed, "You're right Jay. I'm sorry. This is going to be a big adjustment to all of us."
Jensen hugged Danneel and kissed the top of her head, "I just hope it'll be a smooth one."

âYouâre here early.â Jensen chuckled as his stride caught him up to his friend and co-worker, Jared.
âER got slammed last night, got called in. Figured might as well stay for the hour I had before my shift started.â
âOuch.â Jensen winced. âWhat do you got for me?â
âUh..â Jared flipped through the folders. âExam room one, mom says kid is sick. Pretty sure heâs hungover.â
âHow old?â
ââBout 15. Wonât admit to drinking, but I think that's because of the death glare from dad in the corner.â
âCheck BAC to confirm, treat the kid for dehydration.âJared nodded. âWhat else?â
âExam room two,â he pointed towards the door, âsays, abdominal pain, thinks its his appendix, wants a second opinion from a doctor, and not a PA. Wonât let me touch him.â
âWho gave the first opinion?â
âGoogle.â
Jensen rolled his eyes with a groan and grabbed the folder. âA PA isnât good enough for him but fucking Google is? Jesus Christ..â
âKnew youâd like that one.â Jared chuckled as he followed behind as Jensen went to exam room two.
As they stepped in, Jensen found a middle aged man sitting on the exam table, waiting. âHi, Iâm Dr Ackles, and I believe you met my PA.â Jensen gestured to Jared behind him, as Jared closed the door. âWhat can we help you with today.â
âWell, I already told your buddy-â
âYour appendix, yes.â Jensen tossed the folder down onto the closest surface. âBut I need you to tell me. Â When did the pain start?â
âUhm..â The patient fidgeted his fingers a bit. âI donât remember, but itâs been this bad since at least yesterday..â
âOkay, you mentioned itâs bad. On a scale of one to ten, how bad.â
âToday?â Jensen nodded. âCan I say twenty?â He chuckled awkwardly.
âTry and stick to ten or less.â
âAt least a 8 or 9. Right now.â
âNot ten? You mentioned a twenty.â The man gave him a confused look. âItâs okay. Where does it hurt?â
âUh, right here.â Despite the words, he gestured to a rather large area, and when Jensen glanced back at Jared, he could see the smirk playing on his friends lips
âThat could be any number of things, what makes you think itâs your appendix?â.
âWell, I googled my symptoms, and-â Â The face Jensen made had Jared snorting a laugh. âWhat?â
âAh, Good olâ Google. Thatâs where I got my medical degree, too.â He smiled.
âWhat!?â
âLay back, please. Iâm going to do a physical exam.â
âYouâre joking, right?â He glanced to Jared. âPlease tell me heâs jokingâŚâ
âWhat, googleâs good enough for you but not me? You sure it isnât cancer?â Jensen reached into his pocket for his phone. âHere, let me google your symptoms and weâll see-â
âNo!â
âLay back, please.â
Jared shook his head and tried to keep his laughter quiet. He watched Jensen tuck his phone back in, and the patient lay back on the exam table, scooting himself into a better position, but the crease on his forehead from worry never left.
âAny fever? Nausea?â Â Jensen stepped closer, lifting up the man's shirt before putting his hands to his stomach and feeling around.
âNo.. I mean, I donât feel like eating much.. I donât feel great.. Maybe? But for sure no fever.â
He saw the the wince, and the slight nod. âLittle, yeah.â
âHere?â This time, a shake of the head. âHow about here.â Putting a bit more pressure this time, the patient groaned, stomach going rigid and then-
âOh!â There was a look of horror and embarrassment on the manâs face as the loudest and most foul smelling fart filled the room. Jensen took a step back, hands up as he back away and waited for it to end. âOh, God.â
âFeeling better there, buddy?â The man was quick to nod. âI hope you brought an extra pair of underwear with ya, because that sounded wet.â The man shook his head. âOkay, uhm. Through the door, here, down the hall, second door on your left. Bathroom. Iâm gonna see if I can find you something you can walk out of here in after you clean yourself up, okay?â
âT-Thank you.â Â
Jensen nodded and waited as he hobbled awkwardly out of the room, and once they were alone, he turned to Jared. âDonât you fucking laugh.â Jared snorted again, the smile on his face only growing with his laughter. âYou did this on purpose.â He pointed an accusing finger.
âMe? How was I supposed to know the guy hasnât taken a shit for over two weeks?â Jensenâs face fell. âI canât believe you didnât ask.â Jared laughed even harder.
âI hate you.â

<Previous Chapter
Lexi, Jared and Jensen landed in Vancouver close to 7 pm. They were three days away from the start of the new season. A season in which Lexi would be a returning character throughout. Not bad considering the show was her first acting gig and it was only as a favor to Rich.Â
It was different this time though. The last few times Lexi was in Vancouver things were crazy and hectic. The very last time she was here was the first time she and Jared could be a couple around their own home. This time, everyone knew all their little secrets...well, almost all. Now they could finally just be with no hiding. And it felt good.
A handful of people snapped pictures of the three of them as they made their way through the airport. The boys signed autographs for excited fans and Lexi was called out for a handful herself, especially by a few young men.Â
Finally arriving home Jensen ordered take out and Lexi craved a hot shower. Lexi was walking from the shower and saw Jared coming down the hall. âHey, I was wondering where my Cowboys jersey disappeared to. I knew Iâd packed it.â Â
âI can give it back.â Lexi said, lifting the hem off the oversized shit.
Jared grabbed Lexi by the hips. âAs much as Iâd love that, I need to shower first.â He pressed a kiss to her lips, his hands moving to her ass.
Lexi pulled away. âGo shower.â She smacked Jaredâs rear.
âYouâre so bossy.â He told her, walking towards the bathroom with a smile.
âWhatâs he smiling about?â Jensen asked as he reached the top step.
âMe bossing him around.â
âYour sister is bossy!â Jared shouted from the bathroom.
âShe may be my sister but sheâs your girlfriend! She's your problem now!â Jensen shouted back.
âReal nice!â Lexi smacked her brother in the arm. âHave you seen my book? The little white one.â
âThe one you and Jared were looking at on the plane?â
âYeah, that one.â
âI think Jared put it in your blue bag before we landed.â
âThanks.â She walked past him.
âBeautiful wedding ideas.â Jensen said a little louder and she turned around. âGreat Ideas for a wedding in the future. You know, always plan a head.â
âYeah, right.â Lexi said almost nervously. âI mean, you only get married once.â Jensen gave her an odd look. âYou know what I mean, Dork.â She waved him off before walking down stairs.
~
Theyâd been filming a few months now. Falling quickly back into the routine of traveling and early mornings along with late nights. It was a rare afternoon when the boys were off by lunch and had the rest of the day to themselves. They decided to go down to the lake and cast a few lines while drinking a few beers. They had been out there for hours and were a twelve pack in almost. Jared chuckled as he sent a teasing text message to Lexo who was still on set, showing off a big catch and a beer.Â
âYouâre mean.â Jensen laughed. âYou know how much that girl likes fishing.â
âIâm sure Iâll pay for it later.â Jared smiled, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively, Jensen rolling his eyes. âSo, uh,â Jared scratched the back of his neck. âLex said you mentioned our wedding plans a while back?â
Jensen paused mid sip, slowly lowering the bottle from his lips glancing at Jared. âI did.â He glanced down at the bottle in his hands before looking back at Jared. âJare, I know you want to marry her. I just think you shouldnât rush it right now. She is still only twenty and things are just starting to go back to normal for her.â
âI know. Iâm not trying to rush this, trust me.â Jared chuckled. âBut, it comforts her.â Jensen cocked an eyebrow tilting his head slightly looking at his friend. â It keeps her positive of the future.â Jared explained waving a hand. âAfter everything bad that has happened, her knowing that we will be married one day gives her assurance and comfort. And if wedding planning is what she needs then I will give her feedback and plan with her. No matter how far into the future it may be.â Jensen nodded his head rhythmically in understanding. âBut to be honest, the more we talk about it the more excited I get about marrying her one day.â He gave a smirk.
âYeah, well just donât knock her up again till after the wedding.â Jensen commented, taking a sip from his beer bottle. He looked over at Jared seeing his smirk fading as he looked down at the bottle in his hand. âWhat?â Jensen asked, not sure if he said something.
âUh, we- we arenât gonna try for another baby.â Jared told his friend without as much as a glance up.
âWhatâd you mean?â
âI mean, Lexi doesnât want kids.â Jensen shook his head slightly turning to face Jared.Â
Jensen shook his head giving a quick swipe of his tongue over his bottom lip. âYou sure you didnât misunderstand? Lex has always wanted kids.â
âIâm sure.â Jared looked at Jensen taking a breath. She said she is happy with Tom, Shep and Odette. That she doesnât want to have anymore.â
âAnd how do you feel about that?â Jensen asked, noting Jaredâs eyes moving from one thing to the other, not really focusing on anything particular.
Jared gave a shrug. âItâs her choice, I guess.â
âDid you two talk about this? Like, really talk about it?â
âSort of.â Jared finally looked up at Jensen. âShe told me she thought she couldnât carry a baby to term and that she didnât want to go through another miscarriage.â Jared cleared his throat before going on. âI brought up the idea of IVF or seeing a specialist if she was worried and she shot that down. Then I said adoption and she said no, no more kids. I told her okay.â
âAnd that was it?â Jensen asked and Jared shook his head. âAnd you really donât agree with that decision, do you?â
âNo. Not really.â Jared confessed. âKids were something she wanted. And I want a child one day, with her. But she is completely against it. I donât want to push her or make her feel forced, you know?â
âMaybe just give it some time. Itâs still early.â
âMaybe.â Jared took a breath. âI just donât want to push her. If it happens it will happen on itâs on time. She did just go through a lot.â
âI agree.â Jensen nodded before taking a sip of his beer.
They sat in silence for the longest while just simply fishing. Jensen noticed the majority of the afternoon Jared seemed deep in contemplation, which he understood. Jared had a lot happen over the past few months. Hell, for over a year now it's been pretty chaotic. But Jared never left her side. For that, Jensen was grateful.Â
The silence was soon filled and afternoon blended into the evening and they talked about their families, and laughed while drinking beers. Theyâd begun to pack up their gear when they noticed the sun beginning to set, Jared noting Lexi would be wrapping up for the day soon.Â
They started walking up the long dirt path that had taken them from the treeline of their backyard to the lake edge. âHey, Jay?â Jared asked, clearing his throat. âCan I ask you something?â
âShoot.â Jensen told him as he stepped over a log. âWatch your step.â He pointed to the ground.
âLet's say,â Jared stepped over the log Jensen just had stepped over. âThanks,â He adjusted his fishing pole in his hand. âHypothetically,â Jensen looked back at him as Jared began walking even with him. âIf I was to ask Lexi to marry me,â
âUh huh.â Jensen hummed.
âDo I ask permission from you or your dad?â Jared met Jensenâs eyes.Â
âI- uh-â Jensen scratched the back of his head. âIâm not really sure. Me, I guess-â Jared gave a chuckle with a broad smile. âWhat?â Jensen looked sideways at Jared.Â
âA while back at the diner with your parents,â Jared grinned. âYour dad told me Lexi wasnât his little girl,â Jared shifted his eyes to Jensen. âThat sheâs yours. That as long as I have your blessing Iâd have his.â Jensen smiled looking back down to the dirt path. Jared looked ahead of the path clearing his throat after a few minutes. âSo,â He swallowed hard although his mouth was dry. âDo I have it?âÂ
Jensen stopped walking holding his arm out to stop Jared with him. âYou serious?â His eyes dragged up from the ground to Jaredâs face.
âVery.â Jaredâs eyes not wavering. âIâm not saying I want to ask her today or tomorrow or even next month. But, I also donât want to wait as long as youâd like.â
Jared watched as his best friend pondered the words heâd just said. Jared was waiting for Jensen to shut down the idea of he and Lexi marrying sooner rather than later. The silence was beyond deafening as he waited for his friend to say something, anything at this point. Jensen started walking again, Jared following in more silence aside from the leaves and stick crunching under their feet. Jared opened his mouth to speak but didnât get a chance to get even a sound out.Â
âWhat we talkinâ bout?â Jensen spoke, glancing back at Jared. âLike, big grand gesture,â He waved an arm around. âOr, simple and romantic?â Jensen looked back again toward his friend when he didnât respond. âThe proposal...â Jensen raised his brow.
âOh-uh, I-Iâ Jared shook his head. âSorry, I thought I was gonna get punched in the face or something after I said what I did.â
âI can punch you if you want me to.â Jensen offered with a smile.Â
The sun was beginning to set when the two men reached the house. They unloaded their fishing equipment, Jared walking into the kitchen to wash his hands. Seeing Jared, Lexi quickly turned away from him wiping her cheeks.
âHey, baby.â She took a breath, making sure her face was dry before turning back around. âHow was fishing?â
âIt was good.â Jared answered drying his hands on a towel. âRelaxing.â He tossed the towel on the counter seeing her slightly reddened eyes. âBaby?â His face dropped with concern. âBaby, what is it?â He placed his hands on her face.
âIâm fine. Just frustrated. Oh God, you need a shower!â She gave a sudden laugh, pushing away from him. âYou smell like fish.â She leaned on the counter. âGo shower, weâll talk later. Iâm fine.â
âA-are you sure?â Jared asked with a more softened expression.Â
âYes, baby.â Lexi leaned forward giving a fast peck. âIâm good. Go shower.â She repeated before walking away.
That night they enjoyed fresh fried fish and french fries made by Jensen. The three of them stuffed themselves on the homemade food and Lexi cleaned up the aftermath. Jared hadnât brought up Lexy being upset after his shower. Yes, he wanted to talk to her to see what had her so frustrated that she was in tears.Â
Lexi was lying in their bed on her stomach with her iPad in front of her when Jared walked into their now shared bedroom. Which was still a little word that they could still be completely open with their relationship in all aspects of their lives. Which in coincidence, brings to Lexiâs frustrations.
âWhatâre you up to?â Jared asked Lexi, pulling back the bedsheets on his side of the bed.Â
âNothing.â She sat up placing her tablet off to the side.
Jared placed an arm behind his head leaning back against the headboard. âSo, you gonna tell me what was up earlier?â He asked placing an arm on her leg after sheâd laid back on the pillows. âWhy were you so frustrated?â He moved his thumb back and forth solely on her thigh.
âI did something stupid.â Lexi gave a sigh.
Jared gave a head tilt. âWhat?â
âI saw comment-Â a rude comment on my Twitter and like a dumbass I Googled-â
âBaby,â He let out a sigh knowing that rabbit hole.
âI know!â She said running her hands over her face and through her hair. âItâs stupid and you should never do that.â She mocked him and Jensen. âIâm sick of the whispering and pointing from people that only get their info from tabloid rags and online sites that do zero fact checking.â
âThen why?â
âI was curious what the fans were saying since Iâm on the show this season-â
âAnd what did you find?â Jared asked sincerely.Â
 .Â
âThe fans, well, most of them, love the idea of me being on the show. But people like to spread rumors and assume with the trial and my past.â Lexi let out a breath. âItâs frustrating and I felt like- like you and Jensen were getting attacked for being associated with me.â
âWhat do you mean?â He leaned a little closer.
âYouâve never read some of the things being said?â Jared shook his head. âItâs a mess. People assume everything from me being a slut to saying Jensen talked our parents into adopting me so he could fuck me without people talking. And some even called you a-â She shut her eyes. âA pedophile because of the age difference.â Jared saw a tear roll down her cheek and he reached, wiping it away with his thumb. âI hate that they say that about you.â
âBabygirl,â Jared propped himself up on an elbow. âIâll admit I saw some of that crap too, not too long ago.â He gave a sigh. âI donât take any of it to heart. I know that is easier said than done but-â
âI donât care what they say about me.â Lexi spoke up quickly. âPeople can call me a tramp, a slut, whore, I- I donât care. Iâve been called every name and picked apart about pretty much everything from my looks to my weight to my past. I couldnât give a ratâs ass. But, I hate the things they say about you and Jay. And I feel guilty that people are saying these things.â
âStop.â Jared said with raised brows, his eyes staring deeply into yours. âNone of this is on you, do you understand me?â Lexi nodded, her eyes cast down at her hands as she picked with the edge of her pillow case. âBabygirl?â Jared dipped his head attempting to gain her focus.Â
Lexi let her eyes dart around the bed before she built up the courage to speak. âIâm just tired I guess.â She slid herself down in the bed. âI always tend to overthink and over worry when Iâm tired.â
âGet some sleep, baby.â Jared reached shutting off the bedside light before lying close to her, his arm draped over her waist. âYou donât have to worry about any of that mess.â He pressed a kiss on the top of her head.
~
He alarm on Lexiâs phone went off about the time the sun broke through the clouds. Feeling as if she didnât get quite enough sleep, Lexi knew it was going to be a double shot espresso morning.Â
Lexi stretched in the bed before hopping out to start her day, the smell of Jaredâs body wash still floating through the air from his morning shower. Slipping into her jeans she went down stairs and was surprised to see both Jared and Jensen at the counter drinking coffee. Â
âWhat are you doing home?â She asked walking passed Jared, placing a kiss to his lips.
âEverything got pushed back twelve hours.â Jared told her placing his cup in her waiting hand.
Lexi turned to fill his cup. âSo youâll be pulling an all nighter.â She stated, handing him back his cup.Â
âYup, so we have to cancel out dinner reservations.â Jared gave a pout slinking an am around her waist.Â
âThat sucks.â Lexi sat in his lap slinging her arm around his firm shoulders. âThats the fourth dinner cancelling in two weeks.â She lay her head on his.Â
âI know and Iâm sorry.â Jared kissed her forehead. â
Lexi stood. âThatâs okay.â She grabbed his cup of coffee as he raised it to his lips taking a long sip before placing the cup back down. âTomorrow night pizza, wine and-â She paused looking at her brother then back to Jared. She leaned into Jaredâs ear. âAnd maybe some strawberries.â She hummed in his ear.
âDeal.â Jared smiled up at her before she pressed a kiss to his lips.
Lexi walked away and Jensen looked at his friend. âDo I want to know what the last thing was?â
âNope.â Jared smiled sipping his coffee.Â
âSo four cancelled dates in two weeks and thatâs it? Pizza wine and whatever and itâs all good?â Jensen gave a raised brow to his friend in surprise. âNo guilt trip or-â
âNope. She never was big on being a drama queen.â Jared grinned. âEven when we first started dating she never made a big deal about constantly having to rearrange everything.â Jared looked down at the cup in his hand then back at Jensen. âI want to marry her, Jay.â

Jared turned over in the huge bed he shared with Lexi. The room was still dark and the sun had not yet risen. He saw the faint outline of Lexiâs body on the opposite side of the bed, the bathroom light beaming through the crack in the door showing her back rising and falling as she breathed.
He wanted to move closer, to wrap his arms around her and hold her. Instead he just slipped out of bed and headed to the bathroom. He splashed cold water in his face, not bothering to look at his own reflection in the mirror. Pulling on some sweats he quietly left the house and began running up the familiar path behind their home.
He didnât even time his run or pace himself really. He just ran. The sun was fully risen by the time he got back. He showered downstairs so he wouldnât wake Lexi.Â
Pouring a cup of the freshly brewed coffee Jared walked to the back sliding door letting Jensen in.Â
âCoffeeâs fresh.â Jared told him.
âThanks.â Jensen grabbed his own cup. âHow is she this morning?â
âSleeping still. The meds the doctor gave her keeps her in a fog.â Jared explained, sitting at the breakfast nook.
âNot such a bad thing right now.â Jensen commented following him. âGoing to court today?â
âI am. After a week of just Cooper filling me in, itâs time to go back. I doubt Lexi will, though.â
âSheâll be okay.â Jensen watched Jared as he sipped his coffee. âHow about you?â
âWhat about me?â
âHow are you dealing with everything?â Jensen watched as Jared simply shrugged. âI know you feel you have to be strong for Lex. But this is just you and me right now. No bullshit.â
Jared met Jensenâs eyes and Jensen saw the tears he was trying to prevent from falling. âIt- uh...it hurts man.â A few drops managed to escape his demand. âI know the baby was unplanned and crap but still. We wanted it.â Jared sniffles. âYou know we got a letter in the mail yesterday,â Jared placed his cup down, his voice starting to show his emotion. âWeâd done a blood test to see what we were having.â His jaw tensed before speaking again. âIt- it, uh, it was gonna be a little boy.â The tears just started pouring from his eyes. âWe lost our little boy.â Jared sobbed.
Jensen pulled Jared into a hug and just held him. It was the first time in the weeks since theyâd lost the baby that Jared let his emotions out. âItâs alright man, I got ya.â Jensen told him as tears fell from his own eyes.
After Jared had finally let himself break he began to calm himself and sat back up. He ran two hands over his face, taking a deep breath.
âJared?â Lexiâs concerned voice came from across the room.
âHey, baby.â Jared sat up straighter.
âAre you okay?â She asked, walking to him, gently carding her fingers through his hair stopping to let her hand rest on his cheek.
âYeah, I just-â He cleared his throat as if nothing was wrong.
âJared stop.â She exhaled. âYou can be sad too, you know?â She ran a hand through his hair again. âIf you need to go to Jensen to be able to do that, then that's fine.â Jared put an arm around her waist and she sat on his lap. âAs long as you get it out.â
âHow are you feeling, Punk?â Jensen placed a hand on Lexiâs leg.Â
âBetter. I think last night was the last time Iâm gonna take the meds from the doctor. Makes me sleep too much.â She leaned her head on Jaredâs. âI feel like its clouding my thoughts and I need to be able to feel my emotions.â
âJust donât push yourself too much.â Jensen told her. âItâs only been a little over a week.â
âI know. But if I stay going like this, I'll just put myself into a depression.â She lifted her head from Jaredâs shoulder to look at her brother,
âIâm gonna go to the trial today, did you wanna come?â Jared asked.
âNot today. Maybe tomorrow.â She pressed a kiss to his head. âIâm gonna shower.â She stood from his lap and walked away.
âShe seems okay.â Jensen looked at Jared.Â
âShe is for the most part.â Jared looked at where she walked out. âShe has her moments but she is dealing with it.â
âYou know what?â Lexi walked into the kitchen making both men jump. âI think I will go today.â She poured a cup of coffee. âIf I donât Iâll just sit here and cry all day. At least this way I can not focus on it.â She sipped looking at Jared. âBecause if I do, Iâll get down and I donât want to get like that again.â
âItâs okay to take that time if you need it.â Jensen told her.
âI know. And I do. But, I need to get back to normal. Itâs been almost weeks. I canât stay in my bedroom anymore.â

Meanwhile downtown Cooper sat across from Chris and Durning with papers scattered in front of them. Theyâd been in a small room for four hours going over details of who leaked the information to the press. Court was postponed so all details could be reviewed and an end could be put to the constant information going to the media.
âAnything else?â Cooper asked, rubbing his head. âYou know for a person always pointing fingers, your partner was quick to run his mouth.â Cooper eyed Durning.
âWe can not apologize to you or Miss. Ackles and Mr. Padalecki enough. Know that my partner was fired and legal actions are being pursued against him.â Durning explained gathering papers.
âGood it will save us from having to do it.â Cooper said, gathering his own papers.
âIt was not my intention to have any of this in the media.â Chris told Cooper. âIf I would have know he would do this-â
âI believe you.â Cooper held up a hand. âItâs your ass getting torn apart in this. Iâm sure you wouldnât want the world knowing your dirty little secrets.â
Chris nodded, watching Cooper finishing up. âUm- Can I ask you something?â Cooper looked at him. âO-Off the record or whatever.â Chris gained a curious look from both Durning and Cooper.
âWhat do you want?â Cooper asked leaning back in his chair.
âIs Lexi okay?â
âThatâs none of your business.â Cooper sat back up, continuing to collect his papers.
âI know but, I heard she was sick and in the hospital and-â
âYou know you have got a lot of nerve, kid.â Cooper pointed to Chris. âHow did you even find that out?â Chris looked down. âAre you in cahoots with your now ex attorney?â
âNo!â Chris said quickly. âI- I- at court I overheard my brother and some chick talking about it. I stole his phone and I read she was in the ER.â
âYouâre a thief too. Thatâs good to know.â Cooper stood, grading to the door.Â
âDid she really have another miscarriage?â Chris blurted out.
Cooper stopped and looked at Chris. âYour actions have consequences Mr. Jefferson.â Cooper took a breath. âYou donât get to ask about or act concerned about the woman you raped and sexually abuse.â He turned and walked out the room leaving Chris there with his thoughts.
Cooper walked to his car pulling his phone from his pocket. Holding it to his ear he unlocked his car and got in. âHello?â
âHey, Jared. Listen buddy, are you home right now?â
âYeah, Why was court cancelled?â
âIâll explain all of that when I get there.â It was only twenty minutes later when Cooper pulle up into Jared and Lexiâs driveway. âJared, hey, is Lexi here?â Cooper greeted Jared with a hug as they walked into the house.
âYeah, she is in the living room.â
âHow is she?â
âBetter.â Jared told him as they entered the room.
âHey Cooper.â Lexi greeted as Cooper leaned down, giving her a hug.
âHey sweetie. How are you feeling?â Cooper asked sitting next to Lexi, Jared sitting on the opposite side.
âIâm okay.â
âI know itâs been a rough few weeks.â He placed his hand on Lexiâs and looked to Jared as well. âI canât tell you two how sorry I am that this happened.â
âThanks.â Lexi said. âThings happened.â She gave Cooperâs hand a squeeze. âSo whatâs going on?â
âCourt was cancelled this morning because before I could even fully wake up I was called into the judges chambers. We found out who leaked all the information to the media.â
âWho?â Lexi and Jared asked in unison.
âIt was Durningâs partner.â
âWhat?!â Jared looked between Cooper and Lexi.
âHe was busted by Durning and he actually had the good sense to report it to Judge Browning.â Cooper pulled out a few papers. âThis is stating that he was let go from the firm, and action from the court will be taken to see fit the punishment for his crimes against the court.â Lexi and Jared looked over the papers. âThere is something else.â The two looked at Cooper. âBefore Chris joined our meeting this morning, Durning mentioned a few things.â
âLike?â Jared asked.
âLike, there were several times during the trial so far when Chris told him not to cross examine the witness. Mostly when Lexi was on the stand.â
âWhy would he do that?â Lexi looked at Cooper expecting an answer.
âI have no idea. Especially considering Durning was gonna attack you and make you look like a gold digger.â Cooper explained. âHe had a plan to turn the tables and make you look like you went for older guys who were âof powerâ and well off financially. It was pretty convincing to be honest. But Chris wouldnât let him.â
âThat makes no sense.â Jared added with confusion.
âI know. And Chris also asked about you today.â Cooper looked at Lexi. âHe found out about what happened.â Lexi looked down at her hand in Jaredâs. âLex,â Cooper grabbed her attention. âHe asked to see you.â
âNo.â Jared said as soon as the words left Coopers mouth. âTell him no, she isnât going anywhere near him.â Jared stood in agitation.
âIâll go.â Lexi said looking up at Jared.
âIâm gonna let you two talk.â Cooper rose to his feet.
âNo need. You arenât going.â Jared looked back at Lexi. âCome on, Coop. Iâll walk you out.â
When Jared returned he didnât see Lexi in the living room or kitchen. He heard a sound of pillows rustling in the bedroom as he walked down the hallway upstairs. Lexi was making the bed, tossing the pillows and pulling the blankets all with a little more force than needed. It was obvious she was agitated.Â
âBabe-â
âDonât.â She snapped not looking up from the bed, throwing one of the king pillows back onto the bed.Â
âLexi, I know youâre mad-â
âNo. Not mad. Iâm pissed off!â She placed the second pillow in its spot. ââWhere the hell do you get off making decisions for me like that?â
âWell, considering the situation I think I have the right to.â
âHow? How do you get the right to tell me what I can and canât do?â
âI donât, I just mean-â
âExactly!â Lexi snapped walking around the bed to stand in front of Jared. âYou donât! So what makes you think you can say if I go talk to him or not?â
âBecause right now you are in any state to deal with this kind of crap!â Jared snapped back.Â
âI can handle seeing that asshat! You just donât want me to!â
âYouâre right, I donât! You have no reason to! And mentally youâre still fragile right now! Youâre still hurting!â
âNo, Iâm not! The problem is you want me to be!â She shoved her index finger into his chest. âYou want me to still be a crying mess curled up in a ball in bed!â
âNo, I donât!â
âBullshit! You want me to be a poor defenseless little thing so you can swoop in and make the decisions because as always, you think you know better! I may not be able to do a damn thing right but I can still make my own decisions!â She shoved passed him.
Jared followed her into the hall. â Thatâs not true. What makes you think you canât do anything right?! Why would you say that?!â
Lexi let out an unhumorous laugh. âLike you havenât thought about it!â She kept going till she reached down the hall, down the stairs till she was halfway through the house. âIâve messed up most of my life doing dumb thing after dumb thing and now its just coming to ahead! I mean, I canât even have a baby right! I canât even have a baby at all!â
âLexi, stop!â Jared kept following her till she was in the kitchen. She grabbed a wine glass and a bottle of wine. âLex, what are you doing?â His voice calmer.
âYouâre right.â She put the wine glass back and grabbed a glass whiskey tumbler then walked out of the kitchen and into Jaredâs office. âThis seems like a situation for something harder.â Lexi grabbed his bottle of Scotch from the liquor table in his office.
She took the bottle out to the back sunroom and poured herself a glass. The sky was a dark gray color despite it being only mid afternoon, as a storm inched its way closer. The sky would light up when the lighting from the approaching storm would strike through the sky. Jared watched her from behind the glass of the door as she sipped her drink.Â
Jared walked back to the kitchen grabbing himself a whiskey tumbler and walked out to the sun room. He sat in the chair next to Lexi and poured himself a glass.Â
They sat in silence for a long while just looking out at the yard. When the rain finally started to pour from the sky Jared spoke. âRainstorms were always calming to me. Chaotic and pure at the same time.â Lexi didnât say anything, she simply looked out at the rainfall bringing her glass to her lips for a small sip of whiskey. âKinda like you.â Jared told her, his eyes fixated on her. Lexi didnât say anything still, she just stared at the amber liquid in her glass. Jared took another sip of his drink and leaned forward, placing his elbow on his knees. âBaby, why did you say you couldnât even have a baby right? You know this wasnât anything you did, right?â
Lexi had her legs pulled up on the chair, curling the rim of the glass with a finger. âJared, Iâve had two miscarriages-â
âAnd neither was your fault.â Jared told her, interrupting. âThe first was Chris and this time the doctor said it could have been stress or something was wrong with the baby.â
âEver think maybe iâm just not meant to have a baby?â Lexiâs voice was sullen as she kept her eyes on her drink.
âDo you really think that?â Lexi shrugged, still not moving her eyes from her glass. âLex,â
âJared,â She finally looked up at him, her eyes filled with tears. âCan we not do this right now?â Jared saw her chin quiver, her emotions getting the better of her. âIf you donât want me to go, fine, I wonât go. Just leave me alone right now.â Silently her tears began to trace down her cheeks.
âIf you donât want to talk, thatâs fine.â Jared leaned back in his chair. âBut youâre not gonna be alone.â He grabbed his glass and took a sip of his whiskey.
He poured himself a little more and reached over pouring another glass for Lexi. They sat in silence for a long time. Long enough for them to sip through three glasses of Scotch. The weather was still dark, the rain still pouring like a waterfall. She didnât move much or really look at Jared. Jared stayed quiet, observing the sky as the dark clouds rolled over even darker skies.
Keeping her eyes casted down Lexi took a small breath. âWhat if I canât have kids?â Her voice was defeated. âWhat if I have something wrong with me and I canât stay pregnant?â
âWhat makes you say that?âÂ
Lexi shrugged. âI donât know, the fact I lost two babies.â
Jared sat up a little in his seat. âWe can see a specialist and have them see if anything is wrong. If you want to.â
âAnd if there is?â Her eyes flickered to his.
âThen, If itâs what you want we can explore options of fertility and IVF, if thatâs the road you want to take.â She looked back at her glass then took another long sip.Â
âAnd if I donât want to go that road?â She still kept her eyes on her drink like she would find something special in it.Â
âYou mean if you donât want to have a baby at all or if you donât want to carry a baby?â Jared gave a curious head tilt. âLike if youâd rather adopt?â
âWhat if I donât want a baby at all?â Her voice held almost a bitter sting to it.
âBut, you-â
âI know what I said, Jared.â Lexi exhaled in frustration gulping the rest of her fourth glass of Scotch. She reached for the bottle but Jared grabbed it first and moved it away. âJared, stop. Iâm done talking about this.â
âWell, iâm not.â He set his glass down. âWhat are you saying right now, Lexi?â
âIâm saying I donât want to have kids, okay?!â She all but snapped at Jared. âI love your kids like my own and thatâs just gonna have to be enough for you!â
âDonât you even want to try or- or at least talk about it?â Jared protested with a mix of annoyance and dejection.Â
âNo, I donât! Iâm tired of talking about it!â She sat up planting her feet on the ground. âEveryone wants to talk about it! My therapist, you, Jensen! I canât talk about it any more! I canât-â Her voice wavered. Jared saw the anger in her face meltaway to desperation and fear. âI canât go through losing another child, Jared! I just canât!â She yelled out at him.
Jaredâs heart shattered into a million pieces when he saw Lexi break. He got out of his chair and onto his knees in front of her, pulling her into his arms. âOkay, okay.â He soothed and she wrapped her arms around him, her face buried in his chest. âWe donât have to. Itâs okay.â

Love Is Blind Masterlist
<Previous Chapter
The room was dark aside from a sliver of light through the cracked bathroom door. Lexi lay tucked away under the thick comforter, one arm beneath her pillow the other resting on her stomach. Jared slept next to her, turned to his side, his back facing Lexi. The room was cool and comfortable as the two slept through the early morning hours.
Lexiâs eyes began to drift rapidly beneath her eyelids, her breath increasing as her body jerked in her sleep.
With a gas she jolted up in the bed quickly reaching out next to her. âJared!â Jared jumped awake, turning to her. âJared!â She cried out again.
âIâm here!â He reached for her wrapping his arms around her. âItâs okay, Iâve got ya!â He repeated over and over to her.
Lexiâs body relaxed against him instantly as he gently rocked her back and forth. Lexi shifted, wiping her eyes, taking a breath. âGod, this is annoying.â She reached to her side table grabbing her water bottle and taking a sip of the cool water. Jared reached to his side table flicking on the side lamp before turning to Lexiâs again. âWhat time is it?â Lexi asked, placing her water back on the table.
âA little after two.â Jared looked to the digital clock on the bedside table then back to Lexi. âYour panic attacks afterwards arenât as bad anymore.â Jared pushed her hair from her face. âI donât know if you can even call that a panic attack just now.â
âThe only times I really have the panic attacks after a nightmare is when you arenât here.â Lexi looked over at Jared. âYouâre my security blanket, you know.â She crawled into Jaredâs lap as he leaned back onto the pillows. Jared wrapped his arm around her and tucked the other behind his head with a yawn. âIâm sorry I woke you...again.â
âHush.â Jared kissed the top of her head. âStop apologizing for stuff you have no control over.â He nestled his face into her hair with closed eyes. âIâll leave the lamp on, get some sleep.â
Jared often did things like that. Leaving the lamp on, rechecking the windows and doors to make sure theyâre locked. Little things that even though she didnât ask him to do it, he still did to give her peace of mind. And he knew Lexi appreciated it.Â
It had been about three weeks since the first attorney meeting and Lexi had four other meetings, two of which were without Jared. Jared had opposed her going to a meeting without him, knowing how hard the first three were but Lexi was determined to push through her fears and anxiety. Which, Jared admired her for.Â
As a result of the intense meeting Lexi began having nightmares more often and anxiety attacks. But, still, she didnât let it take over like before. Lexi channeled her anxiety, stress and her newly discovered anger in a more healthier way this time around. She ran most morning with Jared when he was home and even on her own a few days a week when he was gone. Sheâd also take to the punching bag in Jaredâs workout room when she felt like she couldnât deal anymore.Â
Most importantly though, she turned to Jared this time around. She leaned on him fully when she needed to break down. She let him hold her and take care of her. And Jared was more than happy to do it.
It was several hours later when Lexi woke up again. The sun was fully up and the lamp off. She rolled over reaching for Jared but was met with cold sheets instead of Jaredâs warmth. Bringing her hands to her face she rubbed her face grunting as she stretched out in the bed. Sitting up and pushing the sheets off of herself stretching again pausing when she saw the bathroom door open.Â
âHey sleepy head!â Jared chimed, standing in the bathroom doorway in his red and black Saxx underwear. âSleep well?â He walked to the bed, hair still damp. âWell, after you went back to sleep.â He added leaning forward kissing her forehead.
âBetter. What time is it?â
âLittle after eight thirty.â Jared sat on the edge of the bed.
âWhat?!â Whyâd you let me sleep so late?!â Lexi stood from the bed but Jared grabbed her waist and pulled her back down. âWhat are you doing?â She giggled, falling back onto the bed.
âYou were tired so I let you sleep. And as much as I missed watching your ass in those running shorts this morning, itâs okay. You needed rest, babygirl.â Jared half hovered over Lexi, his fingers ghosting over her cheek.Â
âYou look glowy.â Lexi commented, lifting her hand to Jaredâs waist.
âWhat?â He chuckled.
âAll fresh from the hot shower, your skin is warm and heat kissed.â
âI think youâre still sleep deprived.â Jared poked her nose with the tip of his index finger before standing and walking the dresser.
Lexi stood on her knees on the bed as she pulled her hair in a ponytail. âHow was your run?â
âGood.â Jared slid his jeans over his Saxx. âWant some breakfast?â He walked over to Lexi.
âIâm good for now.â She rested her hands on his shoulders. It was funny to her, but the only way she could be eye to eye with Jared was when she was kneeling on one bed. And even then it was only to his mouth. âI could use coffee, though.â Jaredâs hands wrapped around her waist. âDid I ever tell you how much I love your eyes?â
âYouâve mentioned it, yeah.â Jared nodded with a cheeky grin.
âYou know, one day, I hope our future children have your eyes.â Lexi smiled at him with a soft grin, letting her fingers play with the hair at the nape of his neck.
âSo you want to add to my pack of little monsters?â He pulled her closer, their bodies almost touching.Â
âYes, I do.â She pecked his lips.
âIt will have to be a few years from now. I donât want to die.â Jared nibbled his lower lip before grabbing Lexi beneath her rear and swooping her up in one quick motion, gaining a squeal from her. She grabbed his biceps bracing herself as he laid her down on the bed with a plop and a chuckle, her legs wrapping around his waist. âWe can still practice though.âÂ
Lexi gave a laugh. âOh yeah?â
âMhm.â Jared hummed before leaning down pressing a kiss to her lips.
He moved from her lips to her jaw line, his barely there stubble leaving a tickling burn on her skin. She moved her hands up his broad shoulders til her fingers were entwined in Jaredâs soft, chestnut locks once more. He peppered kisses across her chest then back up her neck til he reached just her ear. Jared gave a gentle nibble to the soft flesh just beneath her earlobe.
Jaredâs phone rang loudly from the bathroom sending off an echo from the counter. His phone rang again, gaining a grunt of frustration from Jared as head let his head hang low over Lexi. She let out a giggle as Jared placed a kiss to her lips before going grab his phone.
Lexi watched Jared on the phone with a smile on her face.Youâd think that with the trail just weeks away that she would be in a different mindset. But in spite of the nightmares and elevated anxiety she wasnât scared by Jaredâs intimacy. She thought that their love life would come to a halt when the nightmares started, but it didnât.
Instead of Jaredâs overthink and overbearing tendencies she was met with a calm, firm, assuring touch that made making love to Jared possible in spite of the anxiety and flashbacks.Â
And when she did have panic attacks, Jared was there. He held her and let her know that she wasnât along and it was okay to cry.
âWell that was a mood killer.â Jared said walking out of the bathroom, tossing his phone on the bed.
âWhatâs up?â Lexi asked, still laying on the bed.
âGen is on her way with the kids.â Jared crawled on the bed laying on his stomach next to her.Â
âI thought they werenât coming till tonight.â
âThat was the plan but something came up with her brother, or something along those lines. She wanted to know if she could drop them off early.â
âSo much for a little play time.â Lexi smiled, reaching her hand, running her fingers through the hairs that fell in front of his face.Â
âOh, Iâm not giving up.â Jared smirked, lifting himself over her again. He placed a kiss to her lips before rolling off the bed. âIâm just gonna have to get creative.â
Lexi laughed as Jared walked out of the room just in time for the doorbell to ring. After dressing she went downstairs to be ambushed by the kids with hugs and exciting tales of school and weekend adventures.
âDid you guys eat breakfast yet?â Lexi asked with Odette on her hip.
âGen said they were in a rush. They ate some breakfast bars but you know how they eat.âÂ
âWho wants to help me with breakfast then?â Lexi asked, gaining cheers from the three little Padaleckis.
The kids helped make pancakes and eggs with bacon and didnât waste time clearing their plates either. Jared helped himself to two plates of food and was still picking pieces of bacon off of the tray.
Lexi was standing behind the island in the middle of the kitchen, watching Jared and the kids sit around the table in the breakfast nook, Odette in his lap. Despite all that was going on around her, her heart felt full.Â
âAnymore coffee?â Jared asked, walking up next to Lexi. âWhatâs with the dreamy look on your face?â
âNothing.â Lexi took the cup from Jared. âJust admiring.â SHe turned pouring more steaming liquid into the mug then handing it back to Jared.
âAdmiring? Admiring what?â Jared chuckled, taking his cup from her.
âYouâre an amazing dad, you know that?â Lexi hoisted herself up on top of the counter. âI love watching you playing and interacting with them.â She smiled sipping from her own cup.Â
âThinking about babies again?â Jared lifted a single brow, taking a long sip from his mug again.
âMaybe.â Lexi shrugged not looking directly at him.Â
âNu uh!â Shep snapped loudly at his brother pulling Jared and Lexiâs attention towards them instead of one another.Â
âShut up!â Tom retorted.
âHey, hey!â Lexi hopped off the counter. âNone of that!â She handed a napkin to each of the boys. âWipe your faces, please.â
âHe started it!â Tom snapped again.
âDid not! Youâre just being stupid!â
âHey!â Jared sat down next to them suddenly turning stern. It was one of the things Lexi admired about him. Although he is ever the big kid, he knows when to be the adult with his children. âWe donât call people stupid.â Odette crawled into his lap. âWhatâs the fuss about?â
âDaddy, are you and Lexi married?â Shep asked looking up to his dad.
âNo not yet, buddy.â Jared looked at Lexi for a split second then back to Shep.
âI told you!â Tom spoke again, making a know it all face towards his little brother. âShep thinks youâre already married and I told him no because we would have been there!â
âWell, of course you will be there when that day comes.â Lexi sat next to Tom.Â
âWhy arenât you married yet?â Shep asked with such childish innocence.Â
Jared looked at Lexi unsure what to say. He couldnât tell his four year old that Uncle Jensen would break his legs if he married Aunty Lexi before she was twenty two.Â
âWell, sweetie, Aunty Lex and Daddy have been so busy with work and you guys that we just havenât had time to plan anything yet.â Lexi smiled, moving Tomâs hair from his face. âWe love each other a lot and want it to be a special day. It takes time to plan a day like that.â
âI be flower girl!â Odette blabbed from Jaredâs lap.
âYes, you will be!â Lexi answered with just as much excitement, pinching Odetteâs already rosey cheek.Â
âSo, you ARE getting married?â Tom looked at his dad seriously.
âOne day, yeah.â Jared answered knowing Tom was genuinely asking. âWhatâs with all this talk of Lexi and me getting married all of a sudden, huh?â
âAt the school field trip last week mama told the teacher that if ever she canât get in touch with you or her to call Aunty Lex. That she was our step mom.â Lexi and Jared exchanged a baffled glance towards one another. âShep said that means you are married and I told him that you didn't get married.â        Â
âWell, mommy knows we plan on getting married. After that Lex will be your stepmom.â Jared explained.
âWell, what would be different?â Shep asked.
âNothing really. She will still live with daddy and travel with me sometimes. You can still call her Aunty Lex. Only difference is she will have daddyâs last name after we get married.â
âReally?!â Tom laughed. âLexi Padalecki! That sounds funny!â
âAnd it rhymes!â Shep added.
âWhy donât you go play before it gets too hot outside.â Lexi offered, standing.
The boys and Odette rushed out the glass french doors that lead to the back yard. Lexi picked up the plates they were just eating off of and began cleaning up the breakfast mess.
âWhy would Gen say something like that?â Jared asked, looking at Lexi as she placed the dishes in the dishwasher. âIâll go get the kids set up out back.â Jared quickly added before walking out the kitchen.
Lexi had cleaned the entire kitchen and when she walked into the living room she saw the kids in the backyard but didnât see Jared. She noticed the door slightly open and walked to close it when she heard Jaredâs voice.
âHey Gen.â Jaredâs voice was soft as he stood outside under the trees by the door. âI know youâre busy but I need to talk to you for a sec.â
âI have a minute, whatâs up? Everything okay?â
âDid you- the kids said you spoke to their teacher and referred to Lexi as their step mom.â
âOh, Iâm sorry!â Her voice sounded. âI forgot to tell you! When I was talking to their teachers I needed to put down another name for the kids. I know Lexi helps with the kids a lot and I didnât want to refer to her as their dadâs girlfriend/ best friend's sister/used to be babysitter/soon to be stepmom someday, so I just went with step mom.â
Jared chuckled. âMakes sense.â
âThatâs not a problem,is it?â
âNo, no! Just the kids thought weâd already gotten married without them.â Jared gave another light hearted chuckle. âI was just making sure we were all on the same page.â Jared hung up and turned to see Lexi standing there. âHeard that?â He held up his phone giving it a wave. Lexi nodded. âAre you okay with being called step mom?â
âOf course!â Lexi answered. âYou know I love them.â She looked out at the playing in the yard on the swing set.Â
Jared watched her, then cleared his throat. âUh, I'm sorry if I overstepped... about the last name thing.â Lexi looked at him puzzled. âAssuming youâd take me name.â He swallowed hard.Â
âAre you kidding?!â She looked at Jared with amusement. âLexi Padalecki sounds awesome!â She laughed and Jared couldnât help reaching and kissing her.
That night Lexi was lying in her andJaredâs bed with her journal in hand, writing away when Jared walked into the room with a heavy sigh.
âKids are all in bed and asleep.â Jared fell forward on his elbows, climbing on the bed next to Lexi. âHow do they have so much energy at nine thirty at night?â
âThey take after their daddy.â She smiled, still writing.
âWhat are you writing about tonight?â Jared pretends to peek at her journal.
âNo peeking!â Jared leaned forward again with a bigger smile. âJared Tristan, donât you dare!â She moved her journal away from his eyesight farther.
âUh oh, you used my middle name, I must be in trouble now!â Jared snatched the journal from her hands and tossed it to the side. âItâs okay. Iâm not interested in your journal anyway.â He leaned forward placing a simple kiss to her lips.Â
He pulled away and stared at her for a while. Just looking into her eyes he felt safe and at home. Having Lexi and the kids all under one roof made him feel complete. He wanted to keep this feeling.
âWhy are you looking at me like that?â She ran her fingers through his hair, his eyes giving off a sparkle.Â
âMarry me.â
âWhat?â Lexi tilted her head looking at Jared. âWe had this conversation, remember?â She sat up, Jared lifting himself to do the same.
âAnd, Iâm changing my mind.â He sat in front of her with an air of sureness about him.Â
âWhat do you mean, you changed your mind?â She sat with her knees propped up in front of her.Â
âI mean I want to get married now.â He placed a hand on her knee. âInstead of waiting two more years.â
âJared,â Lexi shook her head in a huff and got up from the bed.
âNot the reaction I was expecting.â He followed.
âJared, you promised Jensen.â
âI said let's get married. I never said tell Jensen.â
âAre you insane?!â Lexi snapped.
âProbably but thatâs not the topic right now.â Jared sat on the edge of the bed nearest Lexi. âRight now we are talking about getting married.â
âListen to yourself! Youâre talking about sneaking off and eloping!â She stood in front of Jared waving her arms.
Jared simply reached his arm out, taking her hands in his. âCome here.â He pulled her close to him, til her eyes were even with his. âI want you to be my wife. Hearing the kids talk about how theft already thought we were married and then how excited they are to be a part of it, I want that. I want to marry you now.âÂ
âIf we elope they wonât be a part of it.â
âWe marry now and then have a big wedding later that they can be part of.â Jared explained.
âGod,â Lexi looked at Jared placing a hand on his face. âYouâre serious arenât you?â
âI am.â
Lexi leaned forward kissing him, letting her forehead rest on his. âCan we wait till after the trial?â
âAnything you want.â Jared scooped her up laying her on the bed.
Lexi giggled as she fell to the bed, Jared kissing her neck as he laid on her. âYouâll have to talk to Jensen though.â
âI will.â He said between kisses on her chest. âEventually.â
âBefore we get married.â
âOkay.â He answered, pulling her shorts down her legs.
âSo are we talking like Vegas?âLexi asked with a breathy chuckle.
âJustice of the peace, court house, doesnât matter.â He pushed her shirt up. âJust as long as weâre married.â
âJared, the doorâs not locked.â She fussed. âOh my God!â She moaned as Jared sank between her legs his tongue lapping at her sex.Â
When Jared wanted to quiet Lexi, he knew how to do it. And he enjoyed every second of it. When he brought her to the edge he stopped just before she went over, wiping the slick from his mouth, hovering over her. She pulled him back down tasting herself on his lips, licking the inside of his mouth, nibbling on his lower lip. God, how much she loved this man.Â
She felt his erection at her entrance and wondered for a split second when did he undress? Jared was a smooth bastard, she often told him. She arched into him as he moved inside of her bringing her legs up against his side as high as she could. She wanted to feel him as deeply as he could go.Â
Over the past several months Lexi and Jared were returning to how they were before Chris. They constantly wanted to be with one another. They always were touching somehow or kissing, flirting, a constant flow of affection.
Jared dug his knees into the bed, his fingers entwined with Lexiâs as his thrusts got harder, faster, he was close. SHe squeezed her legs around his waist and side, her nails digging into his hand as she arched into his. Their lips parted with a pop, her head falling back as she gasped.
Jared hips skipped, he buried his face in her neck letting out a loud primal moan as he came inside her.
Feeling her body jerk, he lifted himself on his arms and saw her, eyes shut still coming down from her high.Â
âYouâre so beautiful.â He whispered before kissing down her neck.
~
Lexi stirred slightly in the bed, sleep beginning to break. Her eyes were still closed as she contemplated drifting off again. The cool sheets against her naked frame and the slight ache between her legs from multiple rounds with Jared last night gave her a smile at the thought. The door creaked open and she felt the bed sink next to her followed by the feel of soft lips against her warm bare back. He continued to trail kisses up down her back giving a nibble to the small of her back.
Lexi gave a squirm and a giggle as Jared moved his lips up along her spine and over her shoulder. âGood morning.â Jared mumbled against her skin.Â
âWhat time is it?â
âTen.â
âWhy did you let me sleep so late?â Lexi mumbled mid stretch.Â
âYou needed it and I had everything under control with the kids.â He leaned on an elbow next to her.Â
âYou mean they didnât over take you yet?â Lexi sat up, holding the sheet over her chest. Â
âThey were starting to band together so I came for back up.â He nodded before leaning forward kissing Lexiâs lips.Â
âWhere are they now?â Lexi asked letting Jared lean her back against the pillows. His bare torso pressed against her, a single white sheet between them.
âFinishing a movie before going outside.â His voice was deep in her ear.Â
âYou need to stop before you start something you canât finish, Padalecki.â She hummed against his shoulders. âCanât leave them down there too long.â
âI can be quick.â He whispered against her lips.Â
âYou donât know how to be quick.â She gave another giggle.Â
âMaybe I like to take my time.â He nibbled just beneath her ear.
âDaddy!â
Jared let his head fall to Lexiâs chest, Lexi laughing louder.Â
The weekend went by at a fast pace, as most weekends with the kids. Lexi didnât mind though, it kept her busy and she loved spending time with them. It was Sunday evening, the kids were spread out on the livingroom floor with colors and coloring books, Jared sat on the couch, reclined back on the fluffy pillows, feet propped up on the huge wooden table in front of the couch.Â
Lexi walked into the living room with a little white organizer in her hand. She sat next to Jared, nestling into his side. âI want to show you something.â She placed the organizer in his lap.
âWhatâs this?â Jared looked down at the book.
âI know it kind of seemed like I wasnât into marrying you so soon. And that you kind of worried a bit because of my reactions last night. Iâve been putting this together since you gave me the promise ring.â Jared opened the book and saw flowers and dress patterns, seating arrangements and decorations. âI know we promised we wouldnât get married till I was twenty two, but I fingered it was never too early to plan the wedding you want.â Lexi exhaled in defeat. âBut I really have no idea what Iâm doing because I never thought Iâd ever get married.â Jared flipped through several pages not speaking, Lexi looking at him, waiting for any kind of expression or reaction. âItâs stupid, I know-â
âNo.â Jared said softly, taking her hand, kissing her fingers. âItâs not stupid, baby.â    Â
The doorbell rang signaling Genevieveâs arrival to pick up the kids after four days of hectic Padalecki kids chaos. The three got a good laugh at the step mom confusion, Genevieve stating that Lexi earned the step mom title long time ago. Jared was quick to agree with pride.Â
After they said goodnight and Lexi and Jared cleaned up the last of the mess, they fell back into the couch, the organizer not long forgotten on the table in front of the couch. Jared stretched out a long arm along the back of the sofa, Lexi leaning into him as he flipped through the TV.Â
Lexi was quiet for a while and Jared noticed she was contemplating something in her head. âPenny for your thoughts, baby girl?â
Lexi looked up at him, giving a simple smile. âNo, just-â She cleared her throat adjusting herself. âCan I ask you something?â
âYeah.â Jared said with a slight pitch change.
Lexi played with the hem of her shit, focused on the uneven thread between her fingers. âDo you want this?â
Jared was puzzled, and his facial expression showed it. âWant what?â
âA wedding and more kids?â
Jared shut off the TV and turned towards Lexi. âOf course. Why wouldnât I?â His voice was surprisingly calm.
âWell, itâs just, you did it all before.â Jared shook his head perplexed at her train of thought. âYouâve done the whole big wedding, invite everyone you know.â
âSo.âJared shook his head again. âLex, I donât care how extravagant my first wedding was. If you want weâll go even bigger! I donât care!â He took her hands into his. âAs long as itâs you walking towards me, thatâs all I care about.â
Lexi straightened herself and looked directly at Jared. âSo, youâre saying we could get married at the courthouse and you wouldnât mind?â
âYes.â
âOr have a million dollar wedding in Paris?â
âQui.â Lexi laughed. âI just want you and the kids.â Lexi leaned forward pressing a long kiss to his lips. âI take it you like that answer.â He smiled pulling her close to him as he settled back into the couch.
They lay there for a long while, watching some old movie youâve both seen a thousand times when Lexi suddenly leaned forward grabbing the organizer. She flipped through several pages and stopped at one and handed it to Jared.
âHere. This is what I want.â
Jared took the book from Lexi examining it for a bit. âItâs beautiful.â Jared looked over to her.Â
âJust a few people in Jensenâs backyard, some flowers. Odette and Arrow will be flower girls with Zep walking between them with the rings. Then Tom and Shep dressed just like you next to you and my right hand lady JJ with them at the altar dressed in a matching dress.â Jared smiled as she went on. âWe say our vows at sunset in the fall.â
âI canât wait.â Jared kissed her but the kiss was cut short when the doorbell rang.
âIâll get it.â Lexi got up. âProbably one of the kids forgot something.â Lexi walked out of the room and then soon re emerged. âJared, your attorneyâs here.â
Jared stood when he saw Cooper walking into the room. âHey, man!â Jared extended his hand, Cooper shaking it. âSomething serious mustâve happened for you to be here on a Sunday.â
âI have some news for you two.â Cooper dug in his briefcase. âI have the witness list for the defense.â He handed a piece of paper to Jared, Lexi looking over his shoulder.
âThey really have me on here for the defence.â Jared lowered the paper looking at his lawyer in discontent. âWhat do they expect to gain? What do they even have to ask?â
Lexi took the paper from Jaredâs hand. âTheyâre calling Jesse, too?!â
âWhy Jesse?â Jared asked, looking between Lexi and Cooper. Â
âNot sure yet, but weâll find out soon enough. They pushed the court date up.â
âTo when?â Jared asked with a head shake. âWhy? The defense said they said they wouldn't be ready for at least six more weeks.â
âTuesday.â
âThis Tuesday?!â Lexi took a step forward. âAs in the day after tomorrow?!â
âYes. Looks like you started your hiatus just in time, Jared.â Cooper looked to his old friend. âHope youâre ready for this.â
Hello to all the readers that have enjoyed Love Is Blind! It means so much that I have received the feedback I have considering this is my first fic!
Having said that, the next chapter of Love Is Blind will be delayed a few weeks due to my dealing with medical issues. Please be patient with me, iâll get the next chapter out as soon as I can.
I have also been working on other fics, both RPF and SPN. I am in search of someone that is interested in Beta reading one or two before posting. This person needs to have an open mind to our beloved boys being written out of character and pretty dark at times.
