Romane Janvier 2018
I think this is one of my favourite lighting set ups at the minute. Creating interesting lighting yet still allowing full focus to be on the hair can be difficult, I see a lot of hair photographers struggle to balance this important factor. Photographed at @toniandguylondonacademy for @gilliansolley art direction. Studio Lighting
Studio Class is always so exciting!! Look what you can do if you learn how to observe the light! Most of the time is not about the equipment you use, is about noticing the light.
Here we played with gels, using Flashpoint strobes. And everyone applied lighting techniques like Rembrandt, Split lighting, and Rim lighting.

Split lighting
Chiaroscuro - Split Lighting
Below is my image produced using split lighting. I set up one main light angled to the right of the model. For the lighting attachment I used a beauty dish.
I shot my image with the light coming from the right hand side, whereas the reference image had the light coming from the left. I experimented flipping the image, however I felt like the image looked better in it’s original position.

Lighting Techniques - Split Lighting
Both of these images were produced using Split lighting, or side lighting, highlighting the model’s left side with the beauty dish. The only difference from the images was the image on the right was with a silver reflector.
