The golden city and it’s no dimmer now than it’d been seconds ago. Though for one boy, who remains standing in a stranger’s apartment, Giovanni is certain the world seems a bit darker than usual. And still he won’t make this easy for the boy. This is what he’d wanted. What he’d ordered. He doesn’t need a boy, but a soldier and giving him soft words while he stands trembling before a fall defeats the purpose of this mission. 

He says nothing. 

Meanwhile the body is bleeding into the floor and every minute of inaction will cost the boy an hour of hard labour. Giovanni turns from the crime scene and lets the boy make his own decision. He’s only here to catch him if he’d tripped and stumbled and so far Blue has proven himself to be nothing but cold efficiency. 

The boy’s first kill. 

To his credit, he’s taking it far better than Giovanni had way back when standing in a dark alley that’d smelled of piss with his own mentor there beside him, another shadow as witness to a milestone. The man had clapped him on the shoulders long afterwards and murmured soft praise then, but in the heat of the moment he’d only been a silent and solid presence.

Using my color thumbnail technique to explore designs for a swordsman character! I need a blue sky project where I can sketch/paint whatever I want--any environment, creature, or character--and it’s justified because I can include it in this project’s body of work! 

Another round of color thumbnails using my tried and true technique! Color can be simple!  

 I start by painting swatches, and trying to harmonize the colors–in this case creating a Split Complimentary palette. The most important thing to keep in mind is that every color (and combination) will impact the mood of the piece. If your painting or design works at the simple color swatch stage and tells the right story, then it will work at any level of complexity! I then use those swatches to design out pretty much anything--from plants, to characters, to props!
