HOW DO I FIX A SPLIT NAIL? I'VE TRIED FILING IT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, BUT IT DOESN'T WORK BECAUSE I THINK IT MIGHT BE SPLIT FROM THE BIT WHERE THE NAIL STILL TOUCHES THE SKIN, DOES THAT MAKE ANY SENSE??

The first thing you’ll want to do is be gentle with your nail! You should keep your nails dry, practice good hygiene, and avoid harsh nail products!
As for treating your nail, a good way to get it to repair quickly is use a nail hardener or clear polish.
Avoid clear polishes or hardeners that contain: oluene sulfonamide, formaldehyde, alcohol, acetone or dibutyl phthalate. These products can make your nails weaker rather than stronger.
You can moisturize your nails with products that contain humectants (such as urea, phospholipids, and lactic acid). Humectants retain moisture and helps prevent your nails from cracking.
If your fingernail is split: wear gloves while cleaning (and similar activities) to avoid infections.
If your toenail is split: wear shoes that give them a lot of room, or are open.
One step-by-step way to treat a split nail is:
Trim the nail as much as possible to get rid of the split.
Pour a small amount of nail polish remover on a cotton ball and use it to gently clean your damaged nail.
Cut a small piece of coffee filter so it fits exactly over your damaged nail. Cover your nail with clear nail polish. Press the coffee filter into the polish. Apply clear nail polish over the filter to finish adhering it to your nail. Cover the coffee filter completely and let it dry.
Add a coat of nail polish, if desired. Once dry, add a shiny, strengthening top coat to help harden and protect your nail.
Soak your fingernail in nail polish remover once the split nail grows out. Remove and throw away the coffee filter. Clip away the split and file your nail until it’s smooth.

How should I file??
I broke a nail and now I need to file them all down---A LOT. My nails split so I must be filing them incorrectly because I do everything else that is recommended. Do you know of a tutorial that I can follow?? I already use a Nail Tek crystal file.
