More sketchbook scanning! Thinking about xeno trolls, and the way a lot of animals can peel their lips back from their teeth, and also just threat displays in general! In ascending order of threateningness:

Direct eye contact and/or horns angled forward/down (hey watch it buddy)

Fins flared outward and spread/fluttering (I am on high alert and posturing about it also check it out I'm high-spectrum enough to have fins)

Flared gill slits that would show very bright warning flashes of external gill filament if I drew Makaras with functioning gills (I am asserting my dominance and if you don't back down we're fighting)

Hissing/Lips curled back to show maximum fang (I am actively about to bite)
