Character 1: Jack is the charismatic, tough leader of the Manhattan newsies. He longs for a family, but can’t admit it to himself.

Character 2: Spot is the leader of the Brooklyn newsies. He appears tough and ruthless, but its all a front to keep his boys safe.

All About It:

Spot and Jack have a tentative friendship. When meeting to discuss the strike, they make little jokes at each other. (Newsies Film script, pages 51, 53) He also wishes Jack luck when he seems to be leaving for Santa Fe. (Newsies Film script, page 134) However, they aren’t close, as made clear by points two and three.

Jack isn’t scared of Spot. While all the other newsies cower at the thought of going to Brooklyn, Jack treats it very casually- even saying “Well, he (Spot) don't make me nervous”. (Newsies Film script, page 47) When he gets to Brooklyn, he defends Davey to Spot, insulting him along the way. (Newsies Film script, page 52) He also insults Spot as a ploy to get him to join the strike. (Newsies Film script, page 53) 

Spot doesn’t trust Jack. When Jack comes to talk to him about the strike, he treats it like a fool’s errand, saying “'Jackie-boy's Newsies are playin' like they're goin' on strike -- '”. (Newsies Film script, page 51) He tells Jack straight out that he doesn’t think the strike is serious, too, and he doesn’t believe Jack when he tells him that they are. (Newsies Film script, pages 52, 53)

However, he still respects him. Once the Manhattan newsies have proved they’re willing to stand in harm’s way for the strike, Spot brings his army of newsies to bail them out, apologizing for doubting them along the way by saying “So, ya showed me (that you were serious about the strike)! Now I'll show you what Brooklyn can do --!”. (Newsies Film script, page 65) He also listens to Jack when he explains why they can’t soak scabs, and changes his mind. (Newsies Film script, page 81)

Will it Ship?

YES! Jack and Spot make a great team, and have some chemistry together. Although they do trade insults, it’s clear they’re good spirited and not actually meant to hurt.

Regaining Trust by 4ever_yours2 

After betraying his family and ending his mission at Spyral Dick returns to Gotham to soothe the wounds he created on Tim and Damien. Afterwards he returns to Bludhaven to repair his relationship with Jason.

For what it’s worth: I love anything that has to do with Dick coming back from Spyral and having to apologize it’s wonderful. (Not that he should have to apologize but that’s a different story) 

The Pleasures of Fighting by Potato_Cake 

While Batman is in bed recovering from an injury, Jason hangs around the Manor to keep Dick company. The two birds decide to spar and little Dickie ends up getting embarrassingly aroused when Jason pins him to the ground.

For what it’s worth: Superbly awkward and cute. Warnings for Dick being slightly underage? I think he’s 17? It’s not mentioned(I’m pretty sure). Anyway this is super good & very cute.

For what it’s worth: Very cute little drabble, I’ve never…. ever seen a wrestling AU before so it was very interesting to see such a different take on it. (and I would be interested in more, it’s super cool to see)

For what it’s worth: Such a cute little idea (I absolutely love the idea that Jason is good at makeup?? it just makes sense.) This is a really well written fic that’s very cute.

For what it’s worth: Can we have more tattoo fics? That’d be great. They’re so cute? And precious? And Jason really needs to be more artsy in fics he needs an outlet. This fic is super cute, minorly angsty, and wonderful. 

Bruce Finds Out a Thing by ParzivalHallows

Bruce confronts Dick and Jason about the relationship that they’ve been having behind his back.

For what it’s worth: This fic fits into the category of “Bruce being a butt” and it’s just so well done. It’s really good.

explanation on my part: So I wasn’t 100% sure how to go about this? Because there’s like… a lot of fics out there that haven’t been recommended. SO what I did was I found a bunch of fics with either low hits or low kudos and that’s what I recommended, because I’m assuming they’re not usually recommended if they don’t have a lot of people reading their fics? Maybe? idk we’ll see how this goes.

or better yet imagine them falling in love and Not acting on it because theyre both leaders and they think its a bad idea?? so much angst opportunity

their personalities (or rather their fanon personalities considering spot doesnt have much canon personality) work so well together… sarcastic grump spot and fun idiot jack… they have such good banter… what the fuck is up with that…

spot PUSHING jack and being angry at him for betraying the strike and jack being angry at spot for not showing up = so much drama to work with 

we all know jack is a hopeless romantic even if he claims hes not. we all know spot acts all gruff. contrast is so beautiful (and the eventual spot being soft w jack would be so sweet)
