See how tiny they are? #Tarantulas don't hunt by sight; instead they feel the "footsteps" of nearby prey! --- And a bit zoomed out, to give you a sense of scale. real Lampona hours, who up --- After the sun goes down, Whitetail spiders (Lampona sp.) wake up and go for a wander, hoping to bump into another spider or an insect to eat. In New Zealand, these spiders have a really nasty reputation, but my understanding is that their venom is painful but not actually dangerous. I've removed my previous post with a screencap of an unofficial statement (written by myself) I posted on the American Arachnological Society twitter (which had similar text to my tweet seen here, and linked to various resources). AAS leadership decided to remove that tweet.
