Ok, so, due to the fame of the VLD fandom, I’ve been mostly keeping my blog ship-free... but I’ve had a HORRIBLE writer’s block for the past month or so, so bad I couldn’t even look at the stuff I had already written, and well, this is what I finally could write. I don’t really vouch for the quality, but it’s been a terrible block and I’m not gonna be picky now.
Based on @lordzuuko‘s Spiderman Homecoming AU, with SpiderKeith; inspired by this. Many thanks for the inspiration. Seriously.
There might be more where this came from (probably for the reverse spidersheith au). I have so many ideas. (But I’m also a remarkably unreliable writer, so don’t expect anything, ok?)
I borrowed @yami-scribbleyard‘s game expertise a bit, credit where it’s due.
922 words, full of fluffy and pure pining. Mostly Shiro POV, but some Keith POV sneaked in at some point.
Most of it under the cut.
It wasn't like Keith had suddenly grown a foot taller, gained 100 pounds of muscle, joined the basketball team and started dressing exclusively in pastel colours. He was still as short as his temper, thin, wickedly smart and part of the academic decathlon with Shiro. Nothing big had changed, except he'd gotten a Stark internship, stopped wearing the big dorky glasses without any explanation, and Shiro could swear his usual black t-shirts and school uniform didn’t fit as loosely as they used to. Then again, he'd always had a huge, debilitating crush on his best friend, so that last part was probably just too much staring. Probably. Yeah.
But back to the glasses, or lack thereof: that- that was a problem. I mean, not a problem problem, overall it was better since Keith wasn't tripping on stuff because he couldn't see, and losing his glasses didn't mean he had to walk around practically blind, but… Keith was unfair levels of attractive without glasses in the way, and his eyes, they were-
“Takashi?”
The sound he made at that wasn't very manly. He cleared his throat, feeling a blush threatening to rise to his cheeks at Keith's startled expression.
“Are you ok…?” he asked, hand stopped in midair, probably as it was on it's way to the taller boy's shoulder.
A shame, really. He liked Keith's shoulder touches.
“Yeah, just… distracted. Sorry,” he raised a hand to scratch the back of his neck. “What's up?”
“Nothing really, it's just… with the internship and all, it's been awhile since we've done one of our sleepovers, so… wanna hang out tonight?” he asked, with that soft smile that was only ever aimed at Shiro. The one that fed his pride and his crush like nothing else.
“Yeah!” he answered too quickly, too eagerly. “You know I preordered Tekken 7 and it just arrived and I was gonna tell you but since you're coming tonight we can open it together!” he rambled on, to make up for his excitement.
Keith's smile evolved into a mischievous grin. “I'm going to destroy you, Takashi.”
“Bring it on,” Shiro grinned back, already destroyed.
Keith's Kazuya had been beating up Shiro’s Yoshimitsu for the past few hours, and although his winning smile was a wonder to witness, it was starting to get annoying. The smaller boy was way too good at fighting games, Shiro knew, and he should've known better than to think he could win in a fair fight.
Keith was celebrating another victory when Shiro finally snapped, and lunged at his best friend in a merciless tickle attack. The smaller boy screamed, the controller flying from his grasp as he wiggled under his relentless attacker.
“Taka-… Stop…” he wheezed between fits of laughter, and Shiro grinned down at him.
“You can't escape me, Keith!” he proclaimed, and he should've known better than to spur his best friend's competitive streak.
Next thing he knew, Shiro was on his back, arms pinned to the ground at each side of his head and Keith sitting on his waist.
“You were saying?” he asked, chest heaving as he grinned triumphantly down at his best friend… who was so close… and who he could see so clearly now… down to the silver streaks in his grey eyes, close to the pupils. That was… not helping with the whole get over that stupid crush thing.
And okay, wow. First of all, that smile was just not fair. Second of all, having Keith that close with no glasses between them was not good for Shiro’s heart, because those eyes. He couldn't tell whether they were indigo or violet or both but he was in no way against staring at them for the rest of his life to figure that out. Also those stupidly long lashes provided a very nice frame for those insanely beautiful eyes. And his lips looked really, really soft and-
“I have a crush.”
Keith's smile disappeared. “What?”
Oh no. Shit, he said that out loud. Abort, abort, say something Shiro before you lose your best friend QUICK. “Uh-”
“On who?” And now he was frowning, letting go of Shiro’s hands and moving to sit beside him, instead of on him. Which worsened his panic.
So he really shouldn't be held accountable for what came out of his mouth next.
“Spiderman,” he blurted out.
“What?”
...What.
“From YouTube? Why?” Keith looked confused, and Shiro couldn't really blame him.
“I, uh, I don't know…?” Shiro stalled. “I mean, it's not like I know him personally or anything so I guess it's kinda like those celebrity crushes but I mean, there's this guy out there and he could be doing anything with those spider powers or whatever but instead he's out there helping people and it's pretty amazing?” he rambled on, trying to justify a crush he had come up with on the spot. “And I bet he's cute under the mask,” he added for good measure.
“...huh.” Was Keith… blushing? No, there was no reason for him to blush, right? “That's… cool, I guess.” A corner of his mouth quirked up, and Shiro let out a breath he didn't know he'd been holding. “I support you.”
Yeah, he didn't know how to feel about that, so he settled for a small smile and an uncertain “...thanks.”
And so now Shiro had made up a crush on the spot, which he was now supposed to make believable.
And Keith… Keith was Spiderman. Which was a problem. Or the opposite of one. He was still deciding that.
