Although M’gann enjoyed the chill of winter, she often lamented the dark of the evening when she left the library. Tonight, she left particularly late. Ice Cream for Beginners had gone long and the cleanup? Even longer. Only around eleven, with four pints in her overloaded purse, did she finally lock up.
She took the usual way home and started through the park. Unfortunately, M’gann found herself being followed by two men as she entered a copse of trees. It wasn’t the first time. They’d been watching her the past couple nights. M’gann could sense their ill intentions from a mile away, but there wasn’t very much to do about it and besides that, she knew she’d rather they take a crack at her rather than a powerless civilian.
M’gann stopped, pretending to tie her shoe, and allowed them to approach her.
“Hand over your bag. Wallet. Keys. Phone,” said the first, already close enough to whisper.
“And let’s keep this quiet,” said the other, glancing over his shoulder.
Standing up straighter, M’gann was about to ask if they really wanted a purse full of ice cream, when she sensed a third man in the clearing. Young. Younger than these two. She glanced behind the men.
